No, he's doing everything he can to make Iran the leading Middle Eastern power-broker.
From Iran's perspective;
Iraq is no longer their main rival for military power, Saudi Arabia is vulnerable to an extremist uprising,
..and if they can just make the slightest appearance of playing Obama's administration into following their directions - they've won a major coup in the eyes of the Middle East.

Obama and Iran 'talking' will solve nothing other than getting both political brownie points with their respective supporters.
Its like when Obama went to the Republicans at the start of the latest bailout...in the end it did nothing and we were back at where we started.
Since Iran said they are not going to stop their Uranium enrichment program (they actually sped it up), there's nothing short of an attack that will stop them from continuing towards a nuclear weapon.
And I doubt Obama could get the entire world behind him like Bush Senior did in the Iraq war in 1991...
