Books are fine but you can't copy/paste with them. That's why, for web development, I'd recommend e-tutorials. W3Schools is one of the best. And yes, XHMTL and CSS are the way to go. I'd even recommend getting some CSS layouts and screwing around with them to see everything you can do.

Actually typing is the best way to learn IMO. Copy and pasting is just cheating.
