66 already.
These are probably going to be the worst in this country's history.

Hopefully theres some rain soon, and hopefully no more die!
I hear some of the fires were lit deliberately..

84 dead at last count. Fuck thats the worst I have ever heard . My parents are in Vic at the moment, but I know they are OK. All the best to the victorians on the Forum. Take care guys.
It is the worst. Ash Wednesday was 70-odd.
Stay safe, the weather should ease off this week.

Terrible news.
Good luck to all in Victoria and Qld.

I don't get it, there's starting a fire, and then there's restarting a wildfire which is the worst ever. But tbh, if you guys have your equivalent of chavs over there which you do then it's no surprise
108 dead now. Absolutely unbelievable magnitude.
RIP to all the folks that didn't make it.

Wiped out my mates house in healsville. Took the whole street.
The saddest thing i heard last night was a guy who died as he was trapped in his house and in an electric wheelchair.

If you take into account that Australia only has about 20 million people, this is the same ballpark as 9/11 in terms of the number of dead.
Didn't think about it like that..Pubic wrote:

theage.com.au has revised the death toll to 107, though I doubt that that it will stay there.
Your in my thoughts Aussies. I just saw a map on CNN of the fires.. horrible.

Half of the state of Victoria has been considered a crime scene because of the deliberately lit bush fires.

Talk about mass murder .TheAussieReaper wrote:

Kevin Rudd has impressed me with his action.
He has the CES down there today with cash. All adults get $1,000 and kids get $400 straight away. More cash and help coming.
On another note there is 46 fires in NSW burning too.

181 now. Have the fires passed their peak?
Yeah. Cooler for the last few days (finally).
Still a few burning out of control though. Hopefully they're contained before next week when it heats up again.

Its very hard to get "real" information. The commercial networks are showing all the gut wrenching stuff which is sad but helps nobody. People need updates and information.Pubic wrote:

But to answer your question: No. There are still fires to the north-east Victoria which are going to be fanned by a strong southerly breeze.

This link should give you a decent idea.
If it doesn't rain, then this is a big problem. Established fires aren't put out by cold.
