Photojournalist Lucas Dolega died yesterday after being shot in the head with a tear gas canister in Tunis last Friday. The canister, reportedly fired by police at close range, hit Dolega in the left temple. A French Foreign Ministry spokesperson has called Dolega a "victim of a deliberate homicidal act." He was 32 years old.

A stringer for European Pressphoto Agency, Dolega was on assignment covering the uprising against Tunisia's government when he was wounded. Several other photographers rushed him to a hospital, where he underwent surgery, according to EPA. link

Jens, don't be shooting around f/14 if you don't have to! First up, your lens has a sweet spot (typically two stops down from max aperture) where by the image will be sharpest.. after that you may find that the image gets softer. Secondly, since it's a river scene, I'd have opened up the aperture to give a faster shutter speed, to ensure that there was no blur from movement.
Ahh, thanks - duly noted!

good stuff minty, some very original photos. I wishes I lived in a bigger city (even though I am living in the biggest city in this country) because there is not much going on, no interesting moments like the ones you captured.

"Tamarama and Bronte" is my fav from that set

Anyone else found the iPhone 4 camera to be really fucking good? I mean, it's nowhere near a DSLR but for what it is (a phone ffs) it's pretty amazing.

go back a few posts, Kimmmmmmmmm posted a link to a model shoot, all done with an iphone.

i once took a picture with my phone of Dennis Rodman (a basketball player) in Las Vegas - he asked to take a look, and said "aw, fuck no, delete that shit!" so i asked him 'what's you're good side?' and he mooned me.

Lulz ^

So I have my first photo job coming up soon (senior pictures, woop woop) and Im trying to decide on what I should use the money for. Im using a very old 20D which would be awesome to replace with something a little more updated like a 40D or 50D. I could also use the money to buy more strobes and light modifiers.

tl,dr; Should I use job money to save for camera body or new flashes?

the 60D has off camera flash. from everything i've read, camera budgets should be 1/3 body, 2/3 lenses and gear. so, are you happy with your current lighting? if so, save for a body.

60D is out of my price range, if anything Ill stick to last gen cameras (waaay cheaper). That budget ratio sounds good, I guess strobes it is

PS: Did you or Tania ever get the flash you were looking at?
wallpaper that's great you are getting $$ for the senior portraits. but not surprising. what strobes are you looking at?

im thinking about getting a grid snoot($35?) that fits on the external flash i have(nikon sb-800) to create drama lighting.

about to take an ice climber photo i got framed up to a gallery for their show and just saw they want an artist's information sheet. crappidy. now i sit here looking at my work trying to come up wth some meaningful crap so that people will say 'wow, now that is meaningful.. i think ill buy some of that' lolol
oh dear, Karl Pilkington has taken over my thoughts.

Any of you have a ring flash?  The link isn't the exact one I saw, but I saw an article about a similar one and thought the photos taken with it turned out pretty cool. (not the goober in shown in this link though...lol)

It would have been cool to have the text rising against the mountains. Deke did it once with a photo of the stanely hotel. (From
Movie The Shinning). Looked cool. Its in one of the lynda.com tutorials.

If you don't mind ill try it later tonight.

help yourself - i've never tried 'graphic design' from PS as much as using it as a glorified picture editor. one of the best ways for me to learn, are the tuts from Photoshop User magazine. Deke's now a contributor, now that Layers is gone.

for me, i've found the magazine, books (Kelby's are good) are easier, slower paced. my wife can follow the videos better than i . . .

Anyone else find that when developing images or even viewing the gallery in Lightroom it lacks quite a bit of sharpness?

The image sharpens up when I export to, say, flickr, but it kind of makes developing hard when you get handed a completely different image.. Any setting I can do to improve this at all?

I've been certified at lynda.com in a few course. .. which just means I completed the course
Photoshop CS4 Portrait Retouching Essential Training
Photoshop CS4 Retouching: Fashion Photography Projects
Photoshop CS4 for Photographers
Photoshop CS4 for Photographers: Creative Color
Photoshop CS4 Essential Training
Photoshop CS4: Layers in Depth
.. and more.

Those were in 2009. That's why it is they are CS4. I went through a bunch of total training courses before that.

no, the geology of that area is amazing, but i'm not well versed in it. at the national parks, the NPS has done a good job with interpretive signs.

btw, it says awesomescreenshot wasn't available for FF
