1. Sex is fun, faking an orgasm can make it more interesting for the guy, it can also lead to heightened sexual experience for the girl, which may result in a real orgasm.
2. She may be insecure and think that " if he doesnt think I am having awesome sex, then he might find a girl that does". In that case a girl is likely to pretend to orgasm.
3. Maybe she wants the guy to get to the end quicker, and will try to fake one in an effort to get back to sleep , or whatever.
4. Its also worth noting that some girls just cant have them or find it hard to have them. This may be for psychological reasons ( eg, abused in the past) or biological reasons. Faking may be them just wanting to be normal.

There is Logical reasoning, and there is Emotional reasoning.
Stereotypically, men tend more towards Logical reasoning, and women tend towards Emotional reasoning.
Logical reasoning is problem/solution oriented.
Emotional reasoning is "problems & situations have an appropriate emotional response."
Women aren't 100% emotional hedonists, and Men aren't 100% Logical robots. Everyone uses both types.
Example:
Logical - "The refrigerator is broken - so I need to get it repaired"
reasoning; It's broken, we need it to work, thus we fix it.
Emotional - "The refrigerator is broken - so I'm going to go buy a new dress"
reasoning; Dishwasher breaking made me mad/sad/frustrated, shopping makes me happy, thus we go shop.

Stereotypical Guy will say "lick here, stroke there, grab this, try that" - and generally try to troubleshoot and analyze the "problem"
Stereotypical Girl can fake an orgasm to make the guy feel good, and/or to avoid embarassment or disappointment or confrontation or ... a negative emotion for one or both (or all 7) of the people involved.
If they don't make sense from a logical perspective, switch gears and look at the situation from an emotional-reasoning perspective. Works with males and females. Guy emotional reasoning just tends more towards things that go fast or go boom "'cause it's fun!!".
