Why is my fiancee suddenly reading The Hunger Games? Did it make Oprah's book club or something?

lol.. I'm on book 2. I'm surprised at how popular it is now. My girl liked it so i picked it up. The other night my sister told me she was reading it. She finished the first book in one day.

Yeah, my girl finished the first book in 24 hours.

There has to be some underground female network telling them what pop fiction to read if they're all picking it up at once Maybe it's like menstrual synching.

Well, there is an apparent love triangle in there. But I'm more interested in the post-apocalyptic dystopian society that forces it's tributes to kill or be killed in the arena.

I'm reading the pdf on my computer and I can only read a couple hours before my eyes start to burn (Kindle is broke). I may steal the second book from my sis now that she's done with it.

I still like Marketview, but it works better with magazines and other short reads.

tried several e-books but none seemed comfortable for some reason . still prefer books made of paper (yes, i'm a old fart). fortunately, paperbacks cost next to nothing.

it's because i'm limited, and the thought is that no matter how much you try to keep a brother down, some people just need to be told that their taste in literature is fucking horrific.

p.s. that shit ^ is fucking horrific.

I can't even watch the trailer until I finish the series. I guess it hit the level of popularity. ie make more money.

careful kmar, the path of the intellect is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the senseless and the tyranny of evil mongs.

before even being academic and snooty about literature that isn't even meant to be literary and accomplished... even the wikipedia criticism is hedged in disclaimers that basically says "this is a hype load of bullshit".

The Hunger Games has been well-received by critics. In Stephen King's review for Entertainment Weekly, he praised how the book is addictive and also compared it to "shoot-it-if-it-moves videogames in the lobby of the local eightplex; you know it's not real, but you keep plugging in quarters anyway." However, he stated that there were "displays of authorial laziness that kids will accept more readily than adults", that the love triangle was standard for the genre, and that the reality TV "badlands" were similar to Battle Royale, The Running Man, and The Long Walk. He gave the book an overall B grade.[1] Stephenie Meyer (author of the Twilight series) said, "I was so obsessed with this book....The Hunger Games is amazing."[24] Elizabeth Bird of School Library Journal praised the novel, saying it is "exciting, poignant, thoughtful, and breathtaking by turns". The review also called it one of the best books of 2008.[25] Booklist also gave a positive review, praising the character violence and romance involved in the book.[26] In a review for The New York Times, John Green wrote that the novel was "brilliantly plotted and perfectly paced", and that "the considerable strength of the novel comes in Collins's convincingly detailed world-building and her memorably complex and fascinating heroine." However, he also noted that sometimes the book does not realize the allegorical potential that the plot has to offer and that the writing "described the action and little else".
now there's some book-sleeve one-liners! stephanie meyer said it was "amazing"! well that just about settles it.

I don't tread into fiction much myself. I tend to stick to academic history and am very picky when it comes to fiction. I avoid pop fiction and series like the plague. It's sort of a elitist tool thing to do but if there isn't something deeper to the story I won't bother with it. I want to learn something or maybe see the world in a different light. Robert Paterson can't help me with either of those.
