so my computer is giving me a NTLDR is compressed message and it says press f11 to restart but that does nothing when it restarts.

I don't have an xp disk, just the gateway recovery disk. I tried a reformat from the disk but that didnt work. im still getting that error. and my computer wont boot in any safe mode

Can you get to the recovery console with the gateway disk?

ya but i already ran 2 recoverys, and it didnt work.

Recovery console is different then the 'recovery' those disks give you. As you've said, you've reformatted/recovered but the link in my first post is different.

As Cheez so specifically provided, another possible solution.
However, it needs the recovery console as well.

Also note that Automated System Recovery (F2 right at the start) is different from Recovery Console (ENTER when it's done loading).

If you have a Windows CD you could also make a Bart-PE iso.
