Could save a little extra and get one of these, I have one and it runs just fine.
PM if you want to ask me anything about it.

I'd try and squeeze in some sort of dual coreage if'n they ever go to Vista/7.

X2 4600+ or something. Piss the GPU off, onboard 6100 does just fine. And what's the deal with adding a sound card?

Most of the time a $200 computer build won't be going to Vista anytime soon.  Plus, most C2D's will break the budget...

4600+ runs Vista better than a Pentium DC.

It will need an extra Gig (read: can keep what you've paid for now, unlike with a new CPU) when the time comes, but RAM will be piss cheap by then.

single core AMD? You're better off getting a Pentium D
Not really. My 3500+ owns.

$10 more on Spot's list can get an Athlon 64 X2 4200+.
