Protest The Hero are only the best punk/hard rock band ever made. Music is good for the soul lol.
hahah, list gose Breaking Benjamin, ACDC, In Flames, and a few others
I'm trying to look for them on Pandora and Limewire. I'm always open to new music suggestions, and since I so often have nothing to do I look them up and have a listen. I'm getting a song called "Blindfolds Aside." Is that any good? I've downloaded 12% and so far there's no sound.

Still, if you like this sort of rubbish you got to listen to Iggy and the Stooges, Raw Power will have quite an effect on your young impressionable mind.
After listening to a song from Protest the Hero, (Blindfolds Aside,) I would like to give a little review, (which is by no means concrete.)
There is this one band from New Zealand called 'The Bleeders.' I don't know what genre they consider themselves apart of, I guess it would be similar to Protest the Hero. I hear the same kinds of sound as The Bleeders, however The Bleeders is a band that when you listen to it, you can hear where they should have done different to make their music better. Protest the Hero is what the Bleeders should be if you had your way and could improve them.
When you first here the vocals of "Blindfolds Aside," you're kind of thrown back. It won't be what your expecting, and will honestly sound out of place. Eventually it just clicks into place though. The band have their harmonies sorted in the way that most mainstream bands just can't get right, (Chad Kroeger I'm looking at you you fucker.) For a band that considers themselves a bitpunkish, (honestly I couldn't hear much punk in there,) I must admit I was relieved with the absence of nasely vocals that so fit punk bands now, (thanks I guess mostly to Billy-Joe Armstrong, although he dosn't put it on.) All over the vocals are good. A lot of musical soft-ish voice but even decends to the dark death-metal groan/rasp in the background.
The guitars are a honestly a bit to 'clean' for my liking. It's been heavilly studio done here, but I reckon this song live would actually be better than the recorded version. I reckon some lower rythmic power-chords would have done them well rather than the fast-paced clean high-ish kind of chords. Luckily these kind of chords don't hang around too much, but their addition, although shows the guitarists' skill, really add nothing to the song. They give a nu-metal quality to the band, which as most people would tell you isn't a quality at all. There's a heavily studio rendedred lead break in there too, seemingly just for the hell of it. The guitars in this one song, (I can't speak for any others,) is the weak point in the band. Although they're skilled, it's not neccisarily musically sound. Still, these guitars being pulled out as the 'weak point' really compliments the band as they're not bad at all, just weaker than the rest.
The drums seems to come from someone who just got a double kick pedal for his birthday and likes it a lot. The drum work is excellent, it's not the same drawn out rythem over and over again it's constantly changing with the different parts in the song, (another good point, a structure that isn't verse chorus verse chorus interlude chorus end, it's more complex.) Simply put, this drummer is not only fast, he's good. This is a guy who is not just bashing away at a drumkit, he knows why he's hitting each drum and cymbol, and he would put on a pretty entertaining show to.
The bass dosn't really deserve much of a comment. It pretty much follows the guitar sound with a few alterations. It's good bass work. Nothing amazing but good and fitting.
As a whole, this band is good. It is not the same generic stuff that spews at us wherever we go, for the sole purpose of snatching our money and dissapearing. This band will probably be around for a while yet, not neccisarily going big places, but harvesting a good following of fans and respect from the music community. Shame about the name, I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to think up a more fitting name. I expect a name-change in the future.
If you like these bands you may like Protest the Hero.
Breaking Benjamin
Disturbed
With a touch of My Chemical Romance and SOAD.
And a little bit of Nickelback, (unfortunatly.)
Rating:
***1/2 to ****. Three and three quarters I guess.
Now listen to Shihad.
