Yeah, it really is a pretty good deal, especially considering the housing prices in St. Andrews. I think they could've gotten quite a bit more for it.

why exactly would you want to be paying nearly £500/month for student housing? you're supposed to live in a shithole and thrash it with parties every day. i pay £400/month for mine and i honestly wouldn't pay anything more... and i have a kingsized bed, open plan kitchen/conservatory/breakfast bar area, spacious back-garden etc.etc. you're kinda missing the point of being a student.

It really doesn't get much cheaper if you want to live central.
PS- it's actually cheaper than university-supplied self-catered residences, and they're a lot smaller, shitter, and out of the way.

Still, wouldn't you rather cook your own meals, chances are you don't want to eat x tonight and then you end up paying double etc.
