Next stop: Puerto Rico.
Went to the old car dealership I stopped working at in 2016. Whole new ownership etc.
I was looking at the cars for sale. You know how cars have those giant list of features with MSRP? They still have those stickers but also have a second one with "Dealer's price". Thousands of dollars more than MSRP. Never seen that before. Like the car I am looking at right now has a MSRP of $31K. Dealers price $36K. Fuck that. You can keep it.

There were people in there sitting down with the car salesman (vampire bats). So they must be moving them.
All of the cars were meh except the BMWs and a white Wrangler I saw. I would buy one of those but IIRC their MSRP even before the fake news chip shortage was higher than they had business being. Labor theory of value.

System works great, also I think the importer fucked up the exchange rate, converting euros to aud directly, saving me $50Dilbert_X wrote:

I think I've grown out of the impetuous youth phase as I bought furniture and am excited for the deal I got on it (55% off the manufacturer price, even with shipping included!)
Give it a few years, you'll discover 2nd hand furniture is a much better deal.DesertFox- wrote:

Better quality than fast-furniture on occasion too. Antique restoration, especially. Probably won't get matching sets, but you'll get stuff that will probably outlive you, or at least until movers break stuff or generally bang/scratch it all up. RIP office filing cabinets, you were mint while you lasted that way.
People wondering why I was moving my own stuff. "Just let the movers do it." Ha ha, no. That just leads to broken glass and broken hearts. "Oh hey, can I buy this thing off you?"

We have a pile of 100 year old and repro furniture - all of which somehow made it half way around the world without a scratch.
Repro is excellent value used. No-one wants it because its not 'modern'
It helps I can do most woodwork.

I've built some of my own bookshelves because the kits you can buy just aren't very good. I am not an expert carpenter though. The last one I put together was basically sawn boards and corner brackets with very little prep apart from measurements. Doesn't even have a back on it.
Some furniture places, you'll get blinked at like you're speaking alien gibberish if you go in and ask to see the bookshelves. Almost like "bookshelves, what's that?" Yes, why would you carry an iconic type of furniture, at a furniture store.
Whatever, I could do with less book overhead anyway. I need to move to digital, much as it pains me.
Millennials are killing physical copies.

millennials buy lots of physical copies. vinyl and book sales are booming largely because of them.
i would like a fitted bookshelf one day, wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling. but as i've moved around so much over the last decade or so, i have the usual roll-call of cheap and disposable IKEA furniture. when you acquire books at a high rate, a nice bit of woodwork can set you back $500 easily for half a year's books. not a propitious rate.

As a millennial with a ton of physical copies of stuff, yes. With nowhere to put very many new ones though, I'm having to move more to digital. I could just see the memeable headline though. Millennials are responsible for killing everything. They don't want to buy houses now, of course.
After this move I have vowed to "live small". I don't want to have a lot of stuff to manage and move again.

I'm not sure who would take a hundred dreamcatchers made from the bones, hides, and ligaments of neighborhood pets off his hands, but maybe try etsy.
I don't find this line of joking very funny. I am a friend to all animals.

Was it broken glass in hamburger or various poisons that you were contemplating for a local dog? I do seem to recall mention of something to that effect.
I think for every clip I've seen of an obnoxious vegan, there are about 10,000 "vegan amirite" posts. As far as annoying internet content is concerned, the vegans are beaten.
I don't ram vegetarianism down anyone's throat.
This is my default favourite exchange though:
"Hur dur vegetarians don't get the nutrients they need and can't grow"
"How come I'm 6'2" and you're 5'3""
"Its their brains which don't grow"
"I'm a chartered engineer you're a sewage worker"

I sided with the flying fish lady. Not just because she seemed like a better person to hangout with than the fat guy but because I strongly believe nothing needs to die for someone to have a good time. Hunting and fishing are silly hobbies. Fishing less so since somebody is going to eat the fish but still. Go play video games or something instead fatty.
