Expert seems more like a self applied title.

A computer expert can just be really good at computers, while A computer professional makes it more like it's their BUSINESS to know what they know... for example.

You never see demolition professional,you see demolition expert,as opposite you never see expert assassin,you see professional assassin.

Imho expert and professional are very similar terms which depend on context you put them in.

I would say expert, lets say that I get loads of false qualifications and references and become a lawyer (illegally and without any of the required qualifications). I would be a professional lawyer as it is my job however I would not be an expert lawyer as I would know nothing about the law.

Professional only means you get paid to do something. It's your profession.

Profession = career.

Expert > professional.

Hes asking what seems to be the higher rank. A man could be good at shooting with a rifle, an expert but hes still a civilian. A professional does it for a living and actually has a rank.

I understand what he's asking. The problem is that neither is technically a rank, though expert is closer to being one. Expert is a term that defines how good you are at something, while professional shows whether or not it's your job. It's not really comparing the same things. One's a measure and one's an employment status. If you work at McDonalds making burgers, you're a professional cook. That gives no indication of your ability and being a cook certainly isn't a rank, it's a job title.

Expert: You're good at something.
Professional: Just mens you get paid to do it... Doesn't mean you have to be good.

I'd much rather an expert.
