Why didn't the government spend some of the $1000000000000 on $10000 tax rebates/0% loan programs for hybrid cars that have 80% or more of parts and assembly done in the US? (Employs Americans less money spent on foriegn Energy).  Instead bailout the auto industry while they build shit nobody can buy anyway cuz nobody has a job.

Why didn't the government spend some of the $1000000000000 on tax rebates/0% loan programs for putting Solar Panels on your house if they were manufactured in the US? (Employs Americans less money spent on foriegn Energy)  Instead we continue polluting with expensive energy.

WHY THE FUCK WAS 1 TRILLION EARMARKED FOR SOCIALIZING THE BANKING INDUSTRY THAT WILL BE SCREWED WHEN EVERYONE LOSSES THEIR JOB AND CAN'T PAY THEIR MORTGAGE, CAR LOAN, OR CREDIT CARDS.

Now our government will hold worthless stock in more failed banks that pocketed billions.

I heard a good explaination today for what is going on;

We all know our country is in debt trillions of dollars to foreign entities.

The economic expert i was listening to today warned of a Argentine like dollar crash.
The government will better be able to cry poverty when interest payments come due on these loans if there is no money, which there won't be. So, we default on our national debt. The dollar is scraped and the Amero is introduced.

He said that the main downside of dumping our national debt is that the middle class will be decimated. We will be no different from the Mexican farmers in our standard of living.

The mega banks will go on. The government will have a hand in all of this and soon, farmers will be told they must scale back production of food crops.




You go ahead and imagine what happens next.

That makes no sense.  If America EVER defaulted on debt interest the US dollar would become worthless overnight and the world economies would collapse.  The US government would then have to legistlate a new legal tender that would also be worthless unless it was backed by something besides our defunct government. ie gold or oil or gas certificates  The US would still have the infrastructure and resources in place to quickly build national wealth but would lack the global wealth it enjoys today and thus would have to operate in a modest national budget (no more deficit spending due to loans from central bank) and thus not be a world power.  ie Ireland

Drool, I feel you fail to realize wat these banks do. In this day and age it costs a ridiculous amount of money to buy shit, be it a car, a house or a Nuk [nuk nuk] power plant. The banks have aforementioned money and let other people use it, provided that they pay them back with interest. On paper everyone wins, the person gets the money he needs to buy his shit (thus enabling him to make moar money).

So these banks are important. Without them no one would be able to get enough money to buy shit, and thus everyone would be stuck in a rut. The problem though is the banks don't always work as intended, and often enough they do stupid shit like grant people loans they cannot afford and pay execs moar than they deserve. So while we need the bailout to get the banks working again, we also need to impose more rules onto them so that they can't get high and sort of wander off, as they have done in the past few years.

Also what's wrong with Ireland, aside from the cigarette packs that litter the streets?

Those are good questions. I think the way the bailout has been done is indefensible because the current administration is corrupt and incompetent. Let's hope the next one is less so.

Current Administration?  This shit was dreamed up by and went through a Democrapically controlled Congress!  Is this like the whole, Bush is to blame for the Iraq war when both parties Approved it and all the fucking money that has been dumped into it thus far.

I was referring specifically to the bailout plan. Yes, it was passed by congress but it is clear that the Treasury department, i.e., the current administration, has decided who to bail out and how, and their decisions have been corrupt and incompetent. But I agree, the bill congress passed was idiotic (and I wish the renegade Republicans who opposed it had held out).

I don't want to get into who is responsible for the Iraq war in this thread beyond saying you've gotta be kidding me if you think the Bush administration isn't to blame for pushing for the war, producing erroneous intelligence that helped convince congress, and then running the Iraq operation corruptly and incompetently.
