Ireland is largely developed as directly compared against Russia on a wide variety of benchmarks:

GDP (PPP) per capita - Ireland (7th), Russia (53rd)
Human Development Index - Ireland (5th), Russia (67th)
Life Expectancy - Ireland (33rd), Russia (128th)
Economic Freedom Index - Ireland (3rd), Russia (134th)
Press Freedom Index - Ireland (4th), Russia (141st)
AIDS rate - Ireland (122nd), Russia (57th)

Ireland is like the next door teenager you'd like to punch in the face for playing music to loud, Russia is more like the old grandpa that just wet his pants on the bus and you have the window seat ...

Oh yes, and the US is the college bully that only got in because of his football scholarship

lol, guys, it's sooo funny watching you argue over this. yeah, you are "aware" of living conditions in Russia, damnit.
c'mon, let's judge how "developed" US is by their trailer camps, or Ireland by it's reclaimed areas where there's nothing but empty warehouses.

Russia is not a third world country, I mean no offence, it's generally regarded a second world country. I hope to visit Moscow next year so it'll be interesting to see the place up close and personal.

you didn't offend me one bit, most of those things you wrote are actually true, it just looked like it's been taken out of context to me. and - you'll have to forgive me for this - i dunno why, but you arguing with marine about living conditions in Russia made be lol.

anyway, you are certainly welcome to see this huge mess of a country we've got here. let me just give you a piece of friendly advice:

oh, and disregard that dayarath-dude, i'm sure there's much more wonderful places to visit in Russia that you are going to be able to - hell, i've been living in this country for 32 years already and i've only been able to visit very small number of places i'd like to.

People always go on about travelling route 66 across America but I'd almost be as interested in doing the equivalent journey across Russia... I'd say it would be much more eye opening and truly fascinating.

all i wanted to know was if they were considered developed or not.  i am not interested in all these goofy labels.  they have a space program, a military with advanced aircraft, etc.  if they are not developed, then i need to know what determines someone developed.

Literacy rates, poverty levels, life expectancy, disposable income levels, purchasing power, political freedom, press freedom, economic freedom, quality of life, standard of living, etc. If you judge nations on space programs and militaries alone then I'm afraid you have your priorities mixed up. So North Korea got the nuke while the people starved: developed much?

What determines a developed country is the lively hood and quility of life of majority of the people living in a country..

Look usmarine, the stats speak for themselves. If it's so developed then why is western Europe overrun with Russians looking for work. Lapdancing clubs would not be possible over here without them! I even witnessed Russian prossies in Xi'an in central China. China ffs!

It's very subjective.. Developed isn't just some fundimental things that other countries don't have.. It's the country as a whole, now if majority of our(U.S.A) people are out of work but we still have running water, mass transit, etc.. But no one has the money to use it does that make us a third world country, or a first world country..

I've been to Moscow and I can tell you the standards of living for the average Russian are very low. And I hear Moscow is relatively well off compared to the rest of the country.

i'm too lazy to type so i'd just link my old post here. mind, my english back then was even worse than it is today.
so, in short: imagine what would happen to your country if 90%+ of its economy suddently became completely useless and noncompetitive on the world market - that, basically, is what happened to former USSR, that's what we still have to recover from, and that's why so many people are leaving this country looking for better life.
Russia inherited a lot from USSR, yeah, but tbqh i don't think it would be fair to call it "well developed" today - we still have a long way to go.

p.s. i had a chance to move, btw. i know, i'm subjecting myself to lulz, yeah, but anyway - i used to work for an american company (in moscow rep office of one of 'em transnational corporations) and was invited to move to Ireland to work in logistics and prosessing center in there. i dunno why (my wife really wanted to move, btw) but i didn't for some reason. not like i was affraid to change my life - as the matter of a fact, back then i was always excited if such opportunity had ever opened for me, but... i dunno how to explain it in words (let alone, english words ). there's something about this huge, cold and dirty nonsence of a countly i was born in that makes one grow really attached to it...
