Who Believes Obama Will Restore America's Good Name On The World Stage?

We all as outsiders had a great deal of opinion and debate on this election for our own reasons so now that Obama is in can we realistically expect huge improvements in global affairs when it comes to American involvement? let's not forget that Iran are still lurking around, developing nuclear energy; Afhganistan, Iraq and Pakistan are still messy and Russia is continually flexing its Rooskie muscles... at least Spaniards can rest easy that formal relations with the US will remain now that McCain has lost!

I hope so, but I'm feeling pessimistic on this one. So no.

Plain ol Obama hardly has the power to change the general view of America. The "world's stage" is a cold, sad place, hardly enough love to say "Hello" to an American, much less giving us a "Good name" And yes, you can quote me on that.

His Chief of Staff designate is Rahm Emmanuel, the son of a member of the Irgun, so ... probably no.

"Plain ol"  George Bush had just as much power as Obama will have to change the general view.  Whether or not the detrimental acts to change that worldview were actually George's doing is irrelevant as far as this conversation, because going by what people from other countries on here think, GWB is/was responsible for the deterioration of "America's good name".

I really need to change my avatar. Hitler was insane. Was America insane during Bush administration?

Well respect towards Germany isn't fully restored, people blame Germany for holocaust even now 60+ years later. And I wasn't talking about your complete war history only Iraq and Afghanistan.

Before Bush we already had a bad name. Sure Bush did give it a blacker eye, but Clinton sure riled up Arab Extremists to declare America "The Great Satan" and have Americans dead. But of course, it's still the Republican's fault at giving America a bad name because the Blue side says so.

By electing Obama, America has started to restore America's good name.

Well personally my perception of America has been altered by reading up on their post WW2 history as well as the behaviour and actions of the Bush administration but the fact remains that when Bill Clinton visited Ireland he was warmly greeted by thousands of onlookers in the streets while Bush's visit required an entire village to be sealed off and locked down for Bush's own safety... and that's despite almost universal sympathy for the US in the wake of the 9/11 attacks. How does a nation squander so much goodwill in such a short space of time?
