It was okay.  A war movie where the main character never fires a bullet at an enemy.

It was GOOD not the usual, saw it yesterday with my navy pal.
And how often do you fire a bullet at an enemy...      except in BF2

I haven't seen it, but have read several reviews. Being a war veteran myself, I can relate to the circumstances. The worst part is the waiting. Waiting for the order to cross the line of departure, waiting for the next fire mission in the middle of enemy territory, waiting for some maniac to pop his head up so you can get a good sight picture...

I don't know why anyone pirates movies, the picture quality is horrible and I need my picture quality.

But I saw it within the first week it came out and I got a friend in the Marines I saw it with. It was hilarious for us. Cause whenever we would do Halo (yes, Halo sucks compared to PC games) LAN's me and him would jump in a Warthog, one driving, one gunning. And we would drive all over the Map yelling "Lock and Load!!" followed by a hail of bullets from the machine gun, then the famous phrase "GET SOME!!!".
So this being a movie about Marines we heard Get Some a lot and we were laughing the whole time.

Plus the part where he says whats recommended to kill boredom. He mentioned masturbation like ever other word on the list. Thats always funny. So go see it if you haven't, its great.

Hmm,have you ever heard of DVD-screeners for the press or test-audiences?
My 2CD-version is close to DVD quality.
But that's not the topic right now..

I really liked this movie,I like to call it "the modern Full Metal Jacket" because it's exactly the same shit happening, only about 25 years later.
Some people complain about the movie having not enough action, well, look Rambo 3 then...

I take offense. Jarhead is not a war movie. Jarhead is a people movie, that happens to take place during a war. Its a movie about growing up, about maturity, and about people. Its about what happens to the human psyche when it's removed from the normal, everyday drudgery and slammed down in the middle of a whole new, different drudgery.

Anyway, to compare it to Full Metal Jacket is a totally unfair comparison. FMJ IS a war movie, whereas Jarhead isn't. Well, to be fair, FMJ is actually an anti-war movie, in the same mold as Apcoalypse Now and Good Morning Vietnam. Jarhead doesn't judge, it just lays out the facts.

Now, this movie is actually based on a VERY good book that was released in 2003, called Jarhead. The author of the book, Anthony Swofford, is also the protagonist, and his is the character played by Jake Gyllenhaal. Its a true story (with some liberties taken, obviously), and I happened to like it quite a bit.

And don't pirate it. Pay to see it, or better yet, go to the Library and check out the book. Its better than the movie could ever hope to be.

I'm from Canada and here it's not illegal to download movies, only to distribute them.

As for the movie. I thought it was a great movie even though it greatly lacked action.
