Now before people jump the gun and assume this to be another America-bashing thread I'll explain that I used this clip because there aren't many clips showcasing ignorant Irish people, ignorant German people or ignorant Chinese people... but believe me they exist too! I've met Irish people who don't even know where the border with Northern Ireland is!
Obviously this video does not accurately represent any true cross-section of American society, it is easy to pick your targets and edit your end footage together to present one side of a story but at the same time these people have votes and votes put people in power, these people's points of view may count towards opinion polls that may be then used to attack or defend important arguments. These kind of people exemplify one of the very real failures, or perhaps weaknesses would be a better word, of democracy. It is people like this that help allow countries to sleepwalk into wars with countries that don't even exist in their world-view.
Here's a suggestion: how about having an exam that you have to pass for the right to vote!?
