Nice guys (not doormats) scare women, until the woman is ready for the emotional risk of a lifetime relationship.

As for asking a girl you don't know for a date out of the blue - I think that rarely works.
If you meet/know them socially and they drop some big hints - then you have an opportunity - in practice girls effectively ask guys out, not the other way around.
That said I used to know a guy whose only line was "Do you fuck" - it worked 1 in 10-20 attempts, but you need a lot of confidence to carry that one off - or just go to really sleazy bars.

Young girls (the primary focus of this thread) don't really have a clue WTF they want.

If a guy is paying attention, he can tell if a girl is interested, or at least open to opportunity.
From there, it's entirely up to the guy to open up his mouth and screw things up.

Going try to talk to the Filipino girl in my history class tomorrow. Every other part of the process is easy for me. Making initial contact still makes me as nervous as a 11 year old.

I think relegated is a better word choice. Relocated has a more physical feel to it.
