so my gf is staying at some temporary vacation accommodation provided by university, whilst she works royal ascot week. it's long, tough and shitty: she's harassed by drunken bankers all day and has to get up at 6am and isn't back at her crummy, crappy vacation residence until 8pm at night. all week. none of her friends are around and everyone has, by and large, completely left university now (term is over and so student residences have to be cleared). except me and some of my friends are still here. she was, obviously, going to stay with me before our pointless break-up (which doesn't even feel like it has happened, really)... but now she's paying £20/night to stay in a mouldy room, alone and miserable. she thinks i'm at home, along with everyone else that has moved out. hahaha. so i left her for last night to suffer the experience and let it set in... but tonight i've arranged with the warden/receptionist to let me in at at night-time... i know her room number... and i'm going to go surprise her with a massive bouquet of flowers, a cake and my rigidly erect and fanatically enthusiastic penis.

No, it happens in the US too. It really depends on the school, since some places have tons of on-campus housing while others don't. On-campus has its downsides but I'd rather be super close to all my classes and only have to worry about 9 months of "rent" (as opposed to year-long leases where you'd have to stay in your apartment in the summer or lease it out to someone).Stimey wrote:

I suppose so. My school has approx 25k students but only residence enough for approx 6k.
And most of the on campus is reserved for first years...
however theres lots of rentals in the surrounding area. my house is less than a 5 minute walk to the school and I pay $375/mo for 12 months. which actually comes out to be cheaper than almost all the residences.
but imo I prefer living in a rental. No CA's, cheaper, kitchen and you own room, can have people over whenever you want.
just a more general sense of growing up and taking on a bit more responsibility I suppose.

I'll probably get an apartment the year after next (2012-2013). I wanted to get a dorm for next year because most of my friends either already had apartments/dorms or were gonna commute again (I sure as hell didn't want another year of commuting).
