yeah, long term relationships arent exactly the norm here. i was assuming male preferences based on that - it doesn't change the question.
long term relationships aren't the norm? wtf are you on about? "here"? college? america? your mind?

you don't sound like much of an authority on any of this stuff

i mean i wasn't going to name drop because then i get ostracized for doing so. i meant specifically at yale, seeing as most people are too busy to commit to anything substantial.

what a load of bollocks. i know plenty of people in long-term relationships at oxford-cambridge, some even maintaining long-distance relationships with people at OTHER unis, so they have to travel and make all sorts of effort to see one another and sustain it. sounds like you're just making excuses for being a tad inept with girls: "oh i lack relationship experience because everybody here is too busy studying and taking part in lacrosse matches, anyway". what a crock of shit. if two people dig one another they're going to shack up, whether they're undertaking difficult studies or leading a top-tier career.

i know very few people in relationships at uni, and if they do occur they rarely last more than a few months.  maybe it starts becoming more common in the upper years, but its definitely not common here

strange. over here it's pretty much 50:50 between long-term, serious, stable stuff and fucking around being an irresponsible feckless undergrad.

nah, off the top of my head i cant think of a single relationship between anyone i know here.

and now that im actually thinking about it i still cant think of any. weird.  its certainly nowhere near 50/50, maybe 10% in relationships at the most

None of the long distance relationships my friends had lasted more than a couple of months when one/both of them went to uni. Seemed that they'd break up, the girl in the equation would hook up with some new dude at uni and again that lasted a couple of months.
Seems weird but i've noticed it on fb about 4 or 5 times.

one of my female housemates fell for my friend in fresher's week of her first year and they're still together now... basically living together, cooking together, sleeping together every day/night etc. /shrug. all sorts in the world i suppose. i've been in mostly long-term relationships since being at uni (including living with an other half, too), interspersed with periods of sowing wild oats and siring children the land over. so i see both sides, i guess.

Students in Oxbridge tend to settle a lot faster than anywhere else for some reason though. Beats me as to why, but every time I've gone down there to see friends it's like a little couples village. Even in clubs people dance in couple. It's incredibly creepy.

top institutions have the whole 'social elite' thing about them, innit... lots of match-making for reasons other than pure attraction/affinity. people want to climb social ladders and settle down asap with rich guys, classy women etc. there's a few societies and circles like that here at roho... people that already act as if they're 30 and married with kids, because they know that (high end) universities are the best place to find partners of equal or higher class that are as willing to fuck.

In US colleges a good portion of people aren't looking for serious, long-term relationships. At best they're usually less than a year long, flings as it were. Then there are a few schools that have a reputation for being places where people find love, and often end up marrying not long after graduating.

I've seen a lot of people here get into long term/serious relationships. Then again, it's Pace, lol!

I almost got into one with a girl earlier in the year, but we kind of distanced after winter break for whatever reason. Life goes on.

Agreed. I've never really had a one-night stand, though. Well, sort of, but not really.
