I have everything maxed out. But when I'm sniping then I still cant see much far away. Ive seen some videos about people on wake island who can see until to the Carieer from the end of the island peninsula.

But I can only see so far away

Like that I can http://i33.tinypic.com/2m5zg53.jpg and when I lift my head up, then it is again invisible.

wtf?

when you point your gun off center you see further away in the edges of the screen, its all part of the pov

There may be some settings that you have to lower to see farther. I know that with lighting on low there are fewer shadows so it's easier to see in shady spots. I don't know if there is anything like that for seeing farther.

What he said.  Due to the cost of calculations, fog is depth-based in a lot of games and, as a result, as you approach the edges of the screen, objects that are just as far away from you as objects in the centre of the screen are comparatively less foggy (as the diagonal distance is actually greater to the edge of the screen, but the depth is the same).  If you want to watch a certain area of the screen in a foggy map, just aim so that the area of interest is at the edge of the screen and you'll see further.

Newer games do proper distance-based fog, so you won't see this trick in a lot of modern games

I thought they did this on purpose because in real life your peripheral vision is stronger.

You can't see any further unless you mod some files which is considered cheating.

Ya, I always go sideways and look in the direction I am going so I see the enemy chopper before he sees me...

You could always ask some of the countless nubs on these here forums, who claim they dont hack, never hacked blah blah blah, how they see so far into the distance.

ask dont be ss if hes still on here or search his thread of his settings, everything maxed isnt the ideal settings for distance just like its easier to play on low.
You have to learn the rules of the game and then you have to play better than anyone else.

They did it because depth based fog was almost free, whereas distance-based fog requires a square root which is more expensive.

I.e. they traded speed for accuracy.  Years ago pretty much every single game used depth-based fog, but these days it's barely a concern unless you're targeting slow hardware.

No seriously, I remember playing on wake island and this buggie/fav was too far away from me so I couldn't see it unless I zoomed in with iron sights(of a assault rifle)

I think that's to do with low geometry settings. It needed a little zoom from the assault rifle scope-in for the vehicle to render on your side. I call it object draw distance, not fog distance.

I have my Geometry settings at High, the rest on low. You must have those pesky bomb cars rendered in PR, and those snipers hopping about in vanilla. Texture filtering's good for identifying long range targets, they're too fuzzy from afar with low.

for reals. Sometimes, when I look directly at a star cluster at night, I can't see it, but if I look off to the left er right, I can see it better, its weird

Alot of people in my posts say i can see much further than them so i'm gunna tell you guys what settings i run the game on.After playing around with all of the graphics settings i have found a combination which enables you to see upto around 500m, i can now see people that are on the edge of the carrier! You need a pretty high end graphics card though. My settings are as follows:

display mode:1280x1024@60hz

terrain:high

effects:low

geometry:high

texture:high

lighting:high

dynamic shadows:off

dynamic light:high

aa:off

texture filtering:high

view scale:100%

This is what works best with my card, i might not have everything spot on, u guys have a fiddle and gimme some feedback! smile
