"I would rather live in the dark ages than be subservient to any foreign power."

A sentiment shared by many Irish people for some 800 years. Imperial types can never understand this.

I lol'd at this story from the Article.

He told me about a session he had with a group of 20 recently detained Iraqi Takfiris.

Takfiris are really the last word in intolerance. They believe that anyone who does not share their very rigid interpretation of Islam is an infidel and should be killed.

The cleric described walking into the room where the Takfiris where waiting for him and offering the traditional greeting: "Salaam Aleikum".

The leader of the group responded by hurling his slippers into the cleric's face.

'With these guys you cannot let something like that go," the cleric told me, "or you lose all authority."

'Battle of wits'

The cleric looked the Takfiri leader in the eye and asked: "What did I just say to you?"

"You said Salaam Aleikum," the man replied.

"And what does that signify?" asked the cleric.

The Takfiri leader looked confused. "The word Salaam is one of the 99 names of Allah," the cleric went on.

"You have just thrown your slippers at Allah." He then turned to the other 19 Takfiris. "This man is an infidel," he said, "are you going to kill him?" He turned and left the room.

That night, the guards woke the cleric at 3am and rushed him down to the detention centre.

The Takfiri leader was huddled in the corner of the room shivering, his arms around his knees. "I didn't mean to offend you. Please get me away from here. I think they are going to kill me," he begged.

"So, in just 12 hours," the cleric concluded, "I dealt with the leader of some of the most hard-line people ever captured in Iraq."

"It's a battle of wits," I said. The cleric laughed. "Let's see who wins."

Also basically because Pakistan has nukes no matter what the Pakistan population wants, the Taliban aren't going to get their hands on them. I'd think (and hope) the US/UK and also India would rather nuke and destroy Pakistan in a first strike then let the Taliban/AQ get a hold of them.

They didn't leave here because of the Brits - they left because of a 5 year long famine. And 3 million stayed ftr.

By expecting them to put up and shut up while your army marauds across their border into Pakistani sovereign territory?

A crop disease called blight reached Ireland from the US and destroyed our staple crops for several successive years. The Brits continued to export grain out of our country despite what was happening.

It's not your issue to deal with - it's theirs. Unless of course you plan on invading Pakistan, in which case I suggest you invest in a nuclear bomb shelter.

I'm not going to say Pakistan are necessarily doing the right thing but they definitely know how to play their cards.
They're sticking it to the U.S. that their acts in the middle east are not globally acceptable.  U.S. can't just simply expect to walk into any country on the notion for harboring terrorists.  It would be an excuse for an imperialist pursuit just like how we infiltrated on the fabrication that Saddam had Nuclear Weapons.  I guess some of you people had forgotten that!
Apparently Saddam wasn't as much as a global threat than we made him out to be.  Fuck oops.  Score one for Intel...

Since the U.S. have already deemed themselves as global saviors for the world...
The only time people would buy into the U.S. for invading Pakistan would be if the Terrorists somehow managed to capture a nuclear warhead and strapped it to giant truck or if they captured a nuclear silo somewhere in Pakistan.  Perhaps we'll make another fabricated means to invade and cause another war just like how we got into Iraq.  How does another third Vietnam sound?

Yet somehow i dont think a large majority of Pakistan's population is American... therefore it seems alittle different.

Please excuse my skepticism, but I'm pretty sure the tribesmen there don't have the firepower to shoot down a Predator. It might have been something smaller, like a Hunter or some similar Army UAV, as they fly much lower...but I doubt that, as well.

If the US had put the resources used to invade Iraq into capturing OBL I doubt there would have been a problem.
Only a fool with no international education whatsoever would have thought the Pakistanis would have pursued OBL in the tribal areas.
But hey, your President did so there you go.

Has anyone seen any evidence provided by the Pakistanis that the 20 people killed in that raid were civilians? Also the fact they haven't openly admitted their own ISI were involved in that raid probably tells you something as well.
