Exactly though. That CPU speed should be higher to keep up with the GPU.SargeV1.4 wrote:

GPU comes first, it seems. you just need a CPU that can keep up with it, and fast ram.
That is complete lies.SargeV1.4 wrote:

Here's an example:
OC'd [email protected] (note the CPU score)
Now at 3.4GHz look at the increase in score.
Well i got a zalman cnps7700 cpu fan but i have no experience overclocking so i dont really want to mess with it.Zimmer wrote:
Echo, I highly advise you overclock your CPU. It is very poor compared to the rest of your system ( not the CPU itself, just the speed ).Echo wrote:

Noting is overclocked.
Even just overclocking it a bit would do the trick. Because that is your weakest system part. I would overclock it to 3.00GHz if you don't want to go higher - that is a very stable speed - ( I have it on my computer now ). Then you will see a huge performance difference ( do not overclock if you have a STOCK INTEL COOLER, you must buy a good cooler ).
It's really quite easy.Echo wrote:

You should overclock, like Zimmer says.Echo wrote:

The guide he's linked to looks good. Look at the performance boosts you can get through OCing, one of my 3DMark scores is posted above - it's higher than yours, despite the fact all my hardware is slower (E6300 + 8800GTS).
wooooooooo, completley missed this thread so far... Guess I have to do some benchs with my rigs over the weekend.
My rig here at work in 3mark06: 1.743

Like i said before, i m not gonna mess with overclocking cause i m not much of a techhead. Its fast enough, it loads a bf2 map in 14 seconds. Raptor raid 0 array ftw.
Lol, yea test that rig with the 2 8800 ultra's. That ll be interesting.Sl4y3r wrote:

Sooner or later, you will overclock. And with C2D, new mobos and sensors it's almost impossible to fry anything, so don't worry.

Although mine was on Vista x64.

It's similar to my scores. On similar hardware.buLLet_t00th wrote:

You haven't been doing your OCing right. Vista doesn't make much difference.

Nope, OCing the normal way, got it at 375 FSB with 8 multiplier.Bertster7 wrote:

And from browsing the OcUK forums the tests they do on the same rig with XP and Vista seems to have a difference of 1000 to 2000.

I scored a couple of hundred points higher in Vista than in XP.buLLet_t00th wrote:

E6400 at stock speeds (I'll overclock when I get a better cooler, I just have stock now)
Asus Commando
Powercolor X1900XT (stock speeds)
2GB Geil RAM (either 4-4-4-12 or 5-5-5-15, I have no idea at all)
My score seems a little low for my system. Or is it just right? If it is, I'll have to save up for an 8800GTX and double my score.

I haven't even ran 3DM06 on my system yet. The installer is on my drive which isn't plugged in yet! I'll install the drive when I get home, and then run 3DM06. I have no idea what I'll get. It could vary from 6000-9000 for all I know. I'm hoping it is the latter!
sorry.... was i supposed to be looking at your 3dmark scores?Bertster7 wrote:

I don't want to overclock my card + CPU - they're still relatively new, and I don't want to stuff them up. Besides, I don't know how to overclock anyway.
Well, I ran it and got 5614! 386 off my prediction, not bad at all..
