my grandfather was an MP stationed in the Philippines during WW2.  he was shot at by a sniper who missed him by a few feet, and his unit opened up on the treeline with a bunch of .50 cals, killing about 30 hiding infantryman.  he was supposed to be the first casualty of a surprise assault on his base, but poor aim saved him and his buddies.  he still has the 1911 .45 he was issued when he stationed there.  he was able to smuggle it all the way home.

before his MP post, he was part of the island hopping campaign in the pacific serving in small unit tasked with intelligence gathering.  his team was able to force the surrender of a sizable japanese force, and the commander of that force surrendered his swords to my grandpa, and he still has those as well.  i want to get them appraised someday, i'm sure they're worth loads.  he earned a couple medals, a purple heart and bronze star with a little silver star on it.  not sure what that means.

oh and to this day, he refuses to eat anything even related to japanese food.

Great Uncle was in the Hungarian Army during the post-ww1 years.

My grandpa snuck into the army during ww2, but got kicked out for being 16. He went to a small Canadian town, got into the airforce because they couldn't check the records, and became a radio operator. Flew on Wellingtons or Halifaxes, I think.

Actually Asian grand dad was in Taiwan during the Japanese occupation (He was only 7 and his dad was a wealthy businessman). We were here before Chiang and his buddies killed a ton of people. Step mom's side had a lot of people fought with the Japs against the US in the Battle of Phillipines.

Grandmothers Father was a scout behind German lines in WWII, then served in Malaya where he was the only survivor in a truck he was in that was exploded, unfortunately destroying a hearing which screwed his life over as he was a musician as a civvie.

Grandfathers Father didn't actively serve but was a firefighter during the Blitz, lost his own home to a bomb.

Further than that I don't know, however we do have an 1870 Iron cross in the family, so I assume my ancestry is German and someone fought in the Franco-Prussian war. (If it's real or not, never asked and never found out)

My dad served in Ireland during the troubles.

My grandpa on my mom's side came very close to flying planes off of carriers in WWII but his mom wouldn't sign the waiver. He was enlisted for the remainder of the time and didn't see any action. After which he worked at Grumman Aviation (Long Island's best business of all time imo) and worked on the Lunar Excursion Module (LEM) and F-14's.

My grandpa on my dad's side I never got to know. Still have to talk to my grandma about him one day.

My Grandfather on my Mums side was a radio operator in WWII and was in Darwin when it got bombed by Japan.  My Dad was about to be flown out to Vietnam but he broke his fingers just before they left so he had to stay behind, and by the time they healed the war was done with.
