The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

The video makes some good points but, as for it happening I can't see it myself, not in my lifetime anyway. Companies rely too heavily on the net for business, people rely to heavily on it for their personal life, try and take that away and you'll have a revolt so huge from both industry and the public that you'll never be able to recover.

Shutting down the Internet in the fashion they're describing would instantly cripple the global economy (more so than it already is) multi billion dollar companies would cease to exist, imports and exports would essentially stop, the US would have almost no fuel and cripple them yet further, the net is too big an animal to shut down.

I can see governments trying to sneak in censorship though, as far as that goes it is already happening, youtube/facebook/myspace have all removed content deemed inappropriate by the government and they'll continue to do so.

BTW I had a look at the sites they keep referencing and they just seem like a bunch of Loose Change nuts. There was some video that involved the guy who owns the site going around shouting at Michelle Malkin (who admittedly is a massive bitch) about how 9/11 was an inside job.

You Cant just "Shut Down" or "Stop" the internet. The internet isnt one big thing... Its millions of computers and networks linked together so that they can communicate.

It would be impossible for the internet to end due to the fact that there will always be somekind of communication from multiple networks.

Just because it sounds like a conspiracy theory doesn't mean it isn't going to happen. There would be a lot of money in it for those companies involved (more than there currently is). Now I can only speak for myself - but I've probably spent about $200 in the last two years on the internet and say $50 a month.

I've downloaded music, games, OS's and cracks for programs that would probably be ten times the figure I've paid for being online.

The big companies won't let the Internet die, but you can bet your bottom dollar they'll try to skim more and more profit off the entity as long as it continues to grow in popularity and profitability. Which is moreso what the video is about I think... the entire idea of charging certain people more money to connect to the Internet based off some arbitrary system of 'priority' and 'exclusivity'. Just remember that the Internet started as a giant free network with an uncensored flow of information- and we shouldn't let the corporations that dominate it financially turn it around or change it to further their own gains.
