Have you thought about/done the memory upgrade? Looks difficult, and I'm not sure if it would provide that much a performance increase...

Would mainly be using it for browsing and Word Processing, etc.

Nah, 1gb is enough. I've seen how to add more memory but you need to remove the keyboard. Nasty work. I would even be satisfied with 512mb. I will tell you how to free as much ram as possible once you get your One.

no I have not. I uninstalled Av and that freed a lot of memory + disabling some processes. I still need to disable unneeded services. You have wifi on the train? Nice!

We don't have wifi on the train, but I have a huawai mobile internet modem. Pretty sweet stuff. I'm back on the train again heading back to the city. I love putting this thing through its paces.

But try disabling your page file. You'll notice more storage space (like maybe 2GB worth or more) and also quicker response.

Also, not sure if you have a MS Office disc to use on yours, but try Open Office. It only has a 3##MB footprint on the drive and it's totally free. Just download MS Power Point Viewer to go along with it.

I checked pagefile and it seems I did disable it. Ye I always disable it but I thought I forgot to do it this time. Will install OpenO. I dropped MS Office ages ago. Tell me more about that mobile Internet modem please. Is it on USB and is it GPRS based or 3G?

It's a USB modem. It's from a company called HUAWEI.

Next time you pop into Austria, swing by Hofer/Aldi. They have them there for about €90 without a SIM card. Maybe Slovenia has them with a carrier? Do you have 3 there as a carrier? Or A1? T-Mobile? Everyone here in Austria has them with various plans and download limits.

I assumed you did, but what I wasn't sure if they would be selling the same modem at the Hofers in Slovenia, that's why I said "next time in Austria..."

FFlinky told me he found a slot that looks like an extension slot for a SIM card. I googled and found this:

In the future, Acer is supposed to release a 3G upgrade for the One; a slot is located at the bottom of the device, as well as a slot for a SIM card. When this upgrade arrives is still unknown.

Very interesting, browsing with your mobile card.

It'd be nice. But to browse with your mobile's SIM card you'd need to pay for a data plan.

Much easier to just buy a 3G modem and use the SIM card that it comes with (that's how those things operate). The data plans are those are ridiculously cheap at the moment.

well yeah, but you can stick the sim card directly into the pc, instead of via a usb modem.
