I had a similar experience.
I got a puppy. Since no one was arond to look after it all day we had to keep it in a kennel.
He would wimper and wimper when he was put in there, and would cry all night to be let out. (Of course we couldnt let a 3 month old puppy run about at night with no supervision) We finally decided we had to give him back. Even though it was only a week, I missed him
