people take antibiotics when they aren't needed so natural selection leads to rapid evolution of a strain that is immune to everything we throw at it
and then everyone freaks out about the new strain like it's ultra lethal or something
if people would learn that a scratch on the arm isn't cause for an immediate prescription of methicillin maybe we wouldn't have to deal with the occasional serious case of MRSA
Interesting, I thought that most bugs were resistant to penicillin anyway (these days). Still must be hundreds of other antibiotics out there, so its definitely not the end of the world.
