I haven't reinstalled BF2 for quite a while, and I must have forgotten the proper order to patch the game. Do you need to start with patching each version along the way, or can you just patch to 1.4 right off the bat?

I reinstalled the game because of many little crashes and bugs. I did a complete manual uninstall, restarted the computer, then began the install. I first installed BF2. Then, I downloaded patch 1.41 and ran the installer. As I recall in the past, it takes a little while to patch BF2. But my installer takes about 2 minutes then says the installation is complete. Then when I open the game it is still at version 1.1.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do?

You didn't install any expansion/booster packs did you?
They will overwrite the patch and change the version number. You will need to Re-patch after installing any expansion/boosters.

If not, make sure the patch is the right size (~536 MB for full 1.41). And in my experience, patching usually takes about 5-10 minutes depending on HDD speed and fragmentation.

If neither of those you may want to try installing it again. Maybe an error occured during the install and that's preventing it from patching.

Hope that helps.

The game will still say its 1.1.

In fact, it should say its 1.1.2965-797.0.
My state was founded by Batman. Your opinion is invalid.

Yeah, I know that, but it still didn't patch up at the time.

I went ahead and did another complete manual uninstall, then reinstalled and it worked. This can be closed now.
