Do you want me to help you over cam? I've done it before, and the people (one dude had never built or upgraded a computer before) all succeded to construct working computers.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

The hardest part for me when i built my computer is applying the thermal paste so i found a bunch of guides:

Oh, ah. My bad, I didn't read it correctly.

This is how I do it, just for the sake of showing what order you can do it in:

1. mount CPU in mobo socket: only one way is possible, so it's straight forward. Look at the corners, I believe one of them has a "dent" in it - dent corner goes into the mobo corder with an outward dent.

2. Put ram in - only one way fits, straight forward. Open the locks, put ram in until you can close the locks again.

3. If you have a stock cooler, mount it on the CPU as shown in the manual. This will be a bitch. If not, find a guide on applying thermal paste, do that, then attach cooler as shown in manual.

4. Mount PSU in case: intake fan facing the inside of the case (unless you have some fancy intake wholes, which if I remember correctly, you don't). I usually route the cables from the CPU now, before the mobo goes in.

5. Mount mobo in case: match up the wholes, put the seperators in needed wholes, screw mobo in place. Make sure the PCI ports are facing the right way

6. Insert the Graphics card in the PCI-e slot. Make sure it's the x16 and not the x4 slot! Check your manual, I believe it's the one closest to the CPU.

7. plug in all the cables from the PSU, insert harddrives, connect all drives to the mobo, etc.

cables to remember:
- SATA/IDE for DVD drive and HDD
- power for DVD drive and HDD
- CPU power
- big ass mobo power.
- GFX power (cable is labled with "PCI-E")
- fans and shit

6. Plug in PSU, turn PSU on, turn PC on, *fingers crossed*

If you have little rubber washers, USE THEM! They go between the motherboard and the case. My mobo didn't have any since it had the insulation stuff built into it already. Good thing.

The hardest part is the thermal paste. My dad had to help me with that first time I did it.

But when it first turns on and everything works and you don't get any beep codes ... I guess it's like being at the birth of your own child.

There should be a manual that comes with your motherboard on how to put a PC together, so look for that, it's extremely helpful.

Basic steps:
1) Put mobo in case and screw in
2) processor
3) PSU
4) CD-ROM/DVD drives, hard drives
5) GPUs and anything that goes into pci slots
6) attach all wires

I'd give you a link to a neat site I found, but I'm not on my own computer right now

EDIT: Oh and don't forget the fans. You can put those in at the very beginning or very end, doesn't matter. Make sure that air is going in at the front and sides and out at the back.

Nicely done, +1. I would, however, mount the PSU after the mobo, as that makes for easy installation of the mobo. Might become quite cramped to fit the mobo screw in the "top-left corner", the one closest to the back of the case, with the PSU mounted.

To be honest, it's better to mount the CPU and cooler before putting the mobo in the case. Very little space once it's in the case.

tbh, I prefer fitting the PSU first, as it can be a bitch to slide in with a CPU cooler in the way (I cut myself around 7 times on my 9700 before I got it in there )
