this is and the apple logo are the only things that i can see. it fucked up while i was updating the firmware. i cant restore, reset, or do anything to it. itunes doesnt recognize it, and it makes the failed to connect sound when plugged in to the computer. ive searched everywhere and cant find anyone with the same problem as me. wtffffff

Plug it in, turn it off, start to recovery mode (Hold down power + home for 10 seconds, then release power but keep holding home), then restore.

Will wipe off everything on the iPod but just resync.

nope. reinstalling itunes didnt work either. this is weird

it makes the normal noise when i disconnect usb, but when i plug it in, it gives me device failed to connect

Sometimes you should just let it sit.

My ipod froze and didn't reset, but about 30 minutes later started working like nothing was wrong.

it has been > 4 hrs

apple wants $30 to fix it. i'm going to wait a few days to see if i can fix it, but i really don't think it's going to happen.

I have an Ipod 30 GB video and since i bought it broke 5 times.
Now its broken again, teh screen has a huge black spot, the audio has something wrong and itsn ot my fault because I always carry it in thsoe huge protective cases made of aluminum and carbon fiber.

I had a similar issue trying to install 'hacked' classic firmware on my iPod Video (5.5 Generation). I had to wipe and reset it through disk mode.
But as I read, problem has been solved.
