In fairness there are also plenty of dickhead drivers on the road who don't treat cyclists with any respect, intrude on cycle lanes, don't look before turning when there are cyclists on their inside and basically act as if bicycles have no right to be on the road so it goes both ways.CaptainSpaulding71 wrote:
i'm actually sick and tired of bicyclists who don't obey road signs. where i live, they cruise through stop signs and red lights all the time - don't even look too. then, when you honk your horn at them to get them to notice, they give you the finger. assholes. plus, these are the guys who think they are in the tour de france with their 3000 dollar road bike, bike shorts, bike shirt, fancy helmet with 394873948 mirrors, and bike shoes. i only saw ONE guy who did the right thing at an intersection where he was properly observing the bike lane, stopping at the red light, etc. why is it that these other idiots think they are better and don't have to obey traffic signs?

- New York cop knocks bicyclist over for no apparent reason
Kind of makes me want to make a football big hits video and then throw this clip right in the middle of it.
Makes me wonder why they were sitting in the middle of the street. Almost like they were waiting for him for some reason. Either that or he was just a dick cop who was bored.

MEH the cyclist did not know how to ride. looks like he was on a collision course with the cop. I would of deck him too for failing to yield to a pedestrian
First, he would not hit the cop, the cop lunged at him.loubot wrote:

Secondly, the pedestrian was j-walking.
Fault=pedestrian (a.k.a. the cop)
if you are a cyclist and see a pedestrian walking across your path
A. slow down
B go around

I think thats what the rider tried to do, but the fucking cop sped up towards him and lunged at him.loubot wrote:

If I didn't hate those bastards who love to assault moms in minivans and kick and spit on cars and vans they pass in traffic as they unlawfully blaze trails through cities they go through, then yeah, I'd side with the punk that officer took down. It was a nice hit indeed..had his full body weight behind that take down! lol
More civilized... Like most of these "shocking" videos, I will hold judgment until context and facts are known. If the cop was stupid enough to randomly take that fool off his bike, then yeah...he is no professional police officer and should be booted. If the cop was reacting lawfully (which is entirely possible, regardless of speculation), then I applaud his creative technique! Sounds to me like the cyclist may have done something off camera up a ways which caused the cop (and his partner who moved with him in synch for a reason) to slowly move into position to seize upon that cyclist..who may have ignored the cops lawful verbal command to stop..which is likely for this bunch.

I think there are worse things going on in the world. you guys are flying off the handle. dude was punished. stow your cop hatred. jesus
True, I believe he should be done for assault though. If I did that to someone I'd get done for assault why should it be different for anyone else?usmarine wrote:

What punishment did the cop actually receive in the end...loss of job, blacklisting etc.?
the cop must be legit ... jeeze the guy was even white.

The bicylist was locked up after that as well.

Pogan (the officer) arrested the bicycler for what you saw on the tape. What the video doesn't show is Pogan arresting Long for attempted assault in the third degree, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct - charges that kept the Bloomfield, NJ, man behind bars for 26 hours before his release late Saturday.
So actually it's worse than it looks.Adding insult to injury, the criminal complaint drafted by Pogan bears little resemblance to what was witnessed by onlookers and recorded on video.
In court papers, Pogan accused Long of purposely swerving his bicycle to block traffic and then using it as a weapon to run down the officer, knocking him off his feet and causing a "laceration" on his forearm. "You are pawns in the game. I'm going to have your job," Long told Pogan, as he flailed and kicked his arms and legs, according to the complaint.

cops have gotten away with much worse...
this section is funny. replace cop with muslim, and half this section would be in a frenzy with all the generalizations.
I don't know about you guys but I'm not darting by a pair of Police Officers trying to get out of the road. You could tell that the two officers were trying to get out of the road and were talking shit to each other. As the bikes passed so did the Officers' patience. Jr. Badass III tries to show off. Back in the day those asshole types could easily get away with it. Not any more. There are several filters in place that are supposed to catch these assholes, this one obviously 'slipped' through the cracks. I smell a civil suit with a settlement.

Sorry about the large size. I was a bit lazy in optimizing it.
The officer is clearly speeding up in order to take him out. I would have entertained the excuse that something happened before that we didn't see. But the court papers have indicated otherwise. I hope the rider does get a settlement.. he was assaulted (which is illegal btw). Some people are defending the bad cops like this. It makes all the other good cops look bad.

It's very strange. I hope he just snapped at that moment. Otherwise, imagine what he's done that hasn't been caught on camera.
I can kind of see the bike turning towards the cop ... but I have no idea what is going on.
I would have said the opposite, the bike tries to avoid the cop. The cop fucking football tackles him.Tripulaci0n wrote:

I was thinking the cop showed outstanding open-field technique.Braddock wrote:

Well good, he should have plenty of time to play as much football as he wants now.
