Just saw Star Wars 8/10
Spoiler (highlight to read):
No obvious flaws or anything. They stuck a little too closely to A New Hope's formula and really didn't start this trilogy as its own thing. That is understandable though because of how bad the prequels are.

Disney really needs to release another Star Wars RPG like KOTOR. Got an itch for some Star Wars now.

There were apparently a number of projects that were canceled as a result of the Disney acquisition, but they'd have to go through EA. If EA wants to do anything other than spam DLC for the new Battlefront. On that note, games like the new Battlefront are the reason so many titles have disambiguation indexes on wikipedia. If you're not going to number them, at least differentiate the damned names.

Well look on the bright side, you could play Titanfall with its four other players.

How do you feel about Disney buying the Star Wars IP? They nullified all of the Extended Universe stuff. There is a lot of potential for interesting new stories now that the Star Wars canon isn't constrained by 40 years of mismanagement.

I don't actually care what is and isn't considered canon for Star Wars. AFAIK, the Disney acquisition didn't suddenly cause everyone's old games and books to spontaneously combust. Even if it did, what would we lose? Books like 'I, Jedi' that introduced us to the biggest Gary Stu this side of Alderaan? Ones like 'Shadow of the Empire' that further established how ruthless Vader could be with a perfectly-executed plan? I have more, but they were either so packed with awkward technobabble, long alien names packed with apostrophes, or just plain banalities that I couldn't even finish them. And I've read Willow.

In short, I already considered non-movie material to be fan-fiction, but didn't care. Canon arguments for stuff like this and anime vs. manga are mind-boggling to me.

Also, comic books keep resetting their continua. Why shouldn't Star Wars?

Star Wars was ok. It mainly just made me want to go back and watch the old ones for childhood nostalgia.

Wow, what a surprising thing coming from you. I expected you to be OCD regarding what is and isn't canon. Pretty impressed, spider boots.

Welcome to Woop Woop - 4/10

Not a great film, no surprise it failed to achieve critical acclaim following on from Priscilla, but is is a spot on portrayal of pretty well every Australian outback town.

It's actually refreshing for Disney to be able to can all the extra stuff and go do their own thing, but in the end it's just Star Wars. The movies are still numbered, and that satisfies me well enough.

The Peanuts Movie - 9/10

Very charming and true to the originals.
That is, more to the TV series and movies, than the comic strips, as the latter seemed more melancholic to me and from my memory, never had a happy end for Charlie Brown.

They had every running gag in there, except for Snoopy playing the mouth harp.

Technically, the movie is a great example how a computer animated movie should be.
The characters almost look like they were made of clay or foam rubber, and not like shiny plastic, as in so many other movies and TV series.
The backgrounds at times look photorealistic and they use depth of field effects extensively. (I watched the 2D version though.)

I really liked the mystery aspect and unreliability of how much was being said. I wouldn't call it forgettable, but it doesn't seem to have as many of the quotent quotables of many of his earlier movies.

It was a pretty reasonable pulp SF film, and I did get a bit choked up at some of the nostalgia.
That Lucas is now whining that it wasn't shit and therefore not true to the brand is laughable.

Suffragette 9/10
Perfectly made, great historical story, and Carey Mulligan is cute. Never Let Me Go is also worth seeing.

I saw This is the End the other day.  It was really fucking funny.  I like that they stripped down all the pretension of trying to thinly veil a buddy movie around basic plot devices and just let them have fun.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit - 5 stereotypically evil Russians out of 10, not as gripping as during Cold War.

Also, they've already made four Jack Ryan films. Why did they have to put his name in the fifth? Movie titles, man …

Amadeus  9/10. I would have given it a perfect 10 if the final third of the movie didn't seem rushed. I really like the big set designs and the costumes.

I am going to try to watch shakespeare in love next.
