Was thinking of seeing Wreck-It Ralph today. May see Life of Pi instead. If my 12-year-old self was here today, I'm sure i'd get an earful.

Life of Pi is definitely worth the extra few bucks to see it in 3D

I've only ever seen one that did in Arlington, VA and you gotta be 21 or parent-accompanied just to get in so they don't have to card during the movie.  Really old-fashioned kind of place, just one cinema and you can also order food too.  I can't wait to go again one day when I'm 21

Check the menu (you get table service throughout the movie at intervals you request).

Gold Class is the ultimate world of cinema luxury.

An intimate setting that seats no more than 30-40 people where guests can relax in reclining chairs and enjoy full waiter service as well as a brand new food & beverage menu.
I've been a few times, tickets are pretty expensive at around $35 a person but it's definitely worth it for a special occasion like a birthday or treating a loved one, etc. They even do cocktails. The chairs are electronically reclined with independent switches for footrest and back, so you can recline just the way you like.

There are some "in-between" level ones though which I like as well. The Cinema I used to go to a couple years ago seated 100+ people and the tickets were normal prices (around $10) but it had leather seats and you could order food (including meals) and alcohol. They had a deal each week where you got 2 beers, a large popcorn and the movie ticket for $10, that's what I usually did.

Lincoln - 9.5/10

Easily one of the best movies made in the last 10 years.  Probably the best political/historical drama ever to come out of Hollywood.  Spielburg bought the rights to the movie in 1999. You can tell they were sitting on it waiting to get everything just right.

And I'm not a noob so I won't give it 10/10.  There's no such thing as perfect....

I've been to the one in Hamilton and they do a similar thing. The one at Southbank is good and el cheapo so I usually go there.

Is there a list of "in-between" ones? Keen to find where they are.

they have similar VIP theatres downtown here, you get waiters and alcohol and stuff with ~40 people in a theatre.  its a smaller screen and older crowd though so i wasnt a huge fan

That's just gold class. The rest are probably on par with anywhere else in the US and EU. Still, there are enough gold class cinemas around the country to make them pretty accessible.

Somebody told me that in places where the property values aren't ridiculously high, they still have them.  I went to one in Buffalo, NY when I was little and there's quite a few other ones there too.  One year, they even used the minor league baseball stadium in my city to do it

There's a website that has a list of all of them in the U.S. as well as Canada, Australia, Germany and a few others if anybody's interested:

There's one in Yatala (between Brisbane and Surfers).

There's also an open air cinema in Sydney.

We still have one some of those drive-in theaters. Pretty cool.
Bring a pick up truck with pillows, blankets, food, ice chest.

It would drive me nuts hearing people eat dinner while I'm trying to watch a movie. Why not just stay home?
