Fair enough rating, I thnk, and it allows for the "average" movie not being a perfect 50/50 win/fail, because that's simply not true. Anyone disappointed that it wasn't any deeper than space muppets fighting corporate pirates is overthinking it. I'd go into how the film's technical excellence by far surpassed any other aspect of it, but this dead horse has already been beaten to, erm...death. At any rate, I enjoyed Hugo far more when I watched both yesterday.10--> outstanding

For all the rehashed plot details, the world building and and visual delivery have, during my fourth time (?) through this film, pretty much cemented it at a mid-high average. If you have to struggle to find a worse "average" film than Avatar, then you are either exaggerating or haven't seen many movies. I'll grant that you may have a different way of rating films, but subjectively (I know you love that word), Avatar wasn't below average for me. Will I pop it in in another ten years and watch it with the same enjoyment I still get every now and then out of Terminator or Willow? I don't know. It's not old enough for nostalgic value.

Except I didn't "quote" Willow, and referenced the title as something I thought Avatar could be similarly seen as years down the road: a nostalgic trip down memory lane with a cheesy movie, its outdated special effects and a recycled plot. i dunno, personally i'd never give avatar a 7, nor would i give willow a 7. so your references and scoring are confusing. i'm hardly holding them up to godard or fellini, here. sounds like you're butthurt, though. yeah, classical literature and education, blah blah. how about just watching some decent fucking movies. who the fuck watched willow 10 years after it was out? i barely sat through that when it was brand new.

Gee, that must be all of them. It doesn't matter what movie I'd casually compare Avatar to, because in the end, you seem to enjoy winding people up over trivial shit. Now rate a film on your own special scale and make sure it's posh so the internet can be properly impressed.
