9th Company - 8/10

I watched about five seconds in English before I went to Russian with English subtitles. The dubs had no emotion whatsoever.

9th Coy was pretty decent for a Russian film.

I prefer subs to dubs anyway, but forgot to set it before the movie started.

The rambo type scene at the end of that film is amusing.

And anoying.

Couldn't take much of the superpowers shit for long. I think I watched halfway and stopped.
I only watched the first half. I intend to finish it, but aside from one skilled spear master, I didn't see any superpowers.

I started "The War" by Ken burns last night. A slightly different approach in that it recounts WWII and it's impact on selected American cities and families. It (disc 1) has first hand accounts of the Bataan Death March, German U boats sitting off the American coast targeting tankers, the Marine landing on Guadalcanal. ..etc. I like those rarely heard veteran stories, and this docu has plenty of them. There was also interviews of Japanese Americans who were forced to relocate to internment camps. Truly a disappointing element of an otherwise heroic period in our history.

Tom Hanks does some narration.

Ditto with Das Boot. It was horrible to listen Jurgen Prochnow being dubbed. Kinda like watching Xena on some Hungarian channel where some old geezer was dubbing everyone. Yech.

Death Race 2

So many hateable characters

So much bad acting

Such obviously lower budget than the first one

And no Jason Statham

7/10

The ending made up for it all

Saw it on BBC last night. Not bad. I liked the acting. The plot/storyline itself wasn't all that, but it was all done quite well.

didn't you find it slightly comically absurd and incredulous? i know the whole banksy thing is urban myth and rumour-mills, anyway... but that story was just too far out to have any credibility. a fun film though, i agree. just not sure what it was trying to 'be', genre-wise and point-wise. a bad pastiche of lots of things: faux-documentary, character drama, biopic, cultural commentary etc.
