Invasive special effects actually have a point. Other than that, clean editing and good story. My only problem is the origin for all these superpowers, which wasn't necessary to explain the movie, but would've been nice.

Spoiler (highlight to read):
At first I thought Ramona was seeping superpowers onto her boyfriends, but people took it for such granted that I figured it was kind of a done deal for that universe, like any comic book.

pretty sure the last one i read was 'thief of time' or something, and that wasn't that good compared to the earlier stuff.

I'm actually starting the (main) series over again to fill in the gaps. Up next is filling in the holes for Robert Asprin's Mythx.
I first got into Pratchett when that TV mini series Soul Music and the Weird Sisters was on ABC (aus version of the BBC).

Started into the books from that and enjoyed them all.

Didn't know about Going Postal, glad you posted that newbie. I thought it was def one of the better books, (along with monstrous regiment)

And to say you stop reading Pratchett when you are 14 is incredibly naive, I hope you're trolling 'zique.

Megamind 3D: 8/10. Entertaining, and I didn't feel ripped off or anything, unique story. Wouldn't be something I'd watch more than once, though, nor is it something you need to see in the theaters.

lol, I wasn't poking fun at you for that. I read that stuff too; I just don't let it detract from or spoil my enjoyment of easy reading.

Kind of what I figured. My other two choices at the moment would be Red (meh) or Jackass 3D (3d turds...meh). After seeing Potter 7's epic music-infused main trailer, I guess I can wait a few days for that.

I really wanted to see 127 Hours, or even Unstoppable (looks shitty but apparently not so). Was not in the mood for an animated pointless 3D movie. Oh well, people I was with have no taste or appreciation for film

Even if it's Canadian and directed by an Englishman?

Although based on a comic that I wouldn't read, I liked it a lot. The tempo of the movie along with so many 8 and 16-bit references made it have "contemporary nostalgia", I.e. late 80's to mid 90's console games brought to real life. Plus the soundtrack was to me nothing short of great (lots of Black Francis (Pixies) and Beck compositions).

You maybe didn't get to experience the console craze of NES, Megadrive, SNES etc? Maybe that's why you didn't connect with it so much?

i'd say i cought most of the refferences and stuff, but the movie still seemed idiotic to me along with its soundtrack. this undobtedly has to do with me having been raised in environment so vastly different from what you have in so called "enlightened west" that i guess i'm simply too old to adapt now. had i been younger i'd probably have understood this movie better.

I just watched this and was gonna rate it the same.  The fx were a little cheesy at times (hey, it's a low-budget film), and it wasn't particularly hard to see roughly where it was going after the "plot twist" happened, but Sam Rockwell was great and I still liked the overall theme of the film.  I'm a softy for any half-decent sci-fi I guess.
