I don't think this woman should be accountable for murder or manslaughter, but she should face some consequences for her actions.

Yes, that is true.  B.Schuss has already pointed out a few times that this law extends harassment laws to cover digital mediums.  I don't see a huge problem here.

Regardless, this woman did fraud and harass that girl.  If this had been a conman who got someone to 'agree' to give up their life savings, would you feel differently?

That woman knew the girl had been diagnosed with various mental disorders.  Being a woman is not a recognized mental illness.

Here's an idea, do us all a favour and follow her example.

Again lowing sensationalizing stuff. All they did was remove the requirements for harassment to be in person. Harassment has ALWAYS been against the law, next you going to claim someone getting sued for slander is a new thing and has never happened before.

The death, while tragic, is not the crime.  The crime here is in the events leading up to her suicide.  That woman should be held accountable for her actions.  She did not kill the girl, but she certainly harassed and emotionally abused her with malice.  That is the crime for which she should be charged.

Why the fuck should someone have to change their phone number, something that presumable all their friends and family use to keep in contact with them to stop one prick from harassing them?

Seriously if you genuinely think people should be allowed to force others into doing something they don't want to stop some sort of bad consequence.

You know what other crimes that sounds like?

Blackmail, terrorism, mugging, to name a few.

Let me take you back a few years before the internet and cell phones...........Back to a day when people actually interacted in real life and did not see a need to be wired up like a fuckin' stereo. There was once a day when people actually MISSED a phone call, and the other person would simply have to call back later. There used to be a day where people had no idea who the fuck was calling until they picked up the fuckin' phone.

In other words, back in the day, real life interaction was the going trend and to change your phone number was no big deal, you simply gave your new number to thoe you wished to have it.

All this girl hadda do was stay off of MYSPACE, hell, even start a new profile ( change her number) see? I am a problem solver

I believe it is her right to have forms of communication with others without them being open to harassment, hence the law of harassment... all they did was remove the to someones face part of it.

Your allowed to hurt other peoples feelings, your not allow to harass them. Simple as, its been law for a long time, so I dont see what you are so surprised about.

The point being she CHOSE to keep going back for more, she didn't even know "Josh" in real life and she killed herself over him? She could have very easily prevented all of it by just staying the fuck off of MYSPACE, or changing her profile and moving on

You can not be harrassed online when you have the ability to simply and LITERALLY click your way out of any situation. She was not a prisoner, she went where she knew she would be harrassed....all she had to do was not go there.

This is an interesting development.  But not a stretch.

The bill isn't about free speech, its about stalking someone on the internet...which is already covered in laws via telephone harrassment, etc.  So hopefully the law will prevent stalkers, although I would say this isn't "against the law to say mean things".  It's you can't stalk.
