That's a pretty godawful rotation man. 2/5 are quality.
When Burnett's on his game he's a really solid #2. He had a lot of family problems last year which is what led a lot of NYY fans to believe was the reason for his pisspoor performance. Hughes is only going to get better, Nova has shown ridiculous promise, and Colon is just the 5th spot.

Worst case scenario, they trade for a pitcher in July. They were just ranked the 5th best team in terms of organizational depth and prospects, so I don't think it'd blow up the farm if they traded ManBan or Montero. Just not both, ffs Cashman.
I gotta be honest with you man, the Yankees are already deep into the downward spiral of old age. I don't see them winning for quite a while. I'd be surprised if they finished better than 3rd this year and 4th next year.

Anyways, baseball.. I can see the Nationals sneaking into the Wild Card spot if their rotation can stabilize. I've seen crazier things happen.
Nah, there's no way the Nats finish with a better record than they did last year. No Strasburg and Dunn is a much better player than Werth.
Dunn is not a better player than Werth imo.  Dunn is somewhat one-dimensional.  He hits home runs or strikes out.

I guess they're a lot closer than I figured them to be.

With who? Everyone says that, but it's really only Jeter, Posada and Rivera that are up in there in age. Rivera's going to be replaced with Soriano, Posada replaced by Montero, and Jeter with someone in this year's draft who will be seasoned before Jeter retires. I'd say Nunez, but he hasn't really shown a huge amount of promise.

Tex is 30, Cano is 28, Granderson is 30, Gardner is 27, Swisher is 30, Hughes is only 24 as well as Nova, hell even CC is only 30. I'm not worried whatsoever.

ARod is 36 too.

I just don't see the Yankees catching the Red Sox or Rays this year, or Toronto next year.

The Rays will be ah-ful this year. You wanna talk about a pisspoor rotation? There you have one. They did nothing to recover from the loss of Garza. Shields is not a legit #2. Garza was.

The BoSox will be tough this year. While I don't think their offense has improved THAT much with the addition of Crawford, their entire pitching staff is just scary sans Papelbon, if last year's performance from him continues. They are as good as if not better pitching wise than the Phillies.

Really? Jeremy Hellickson is better than Matt Garza any day of the week.

The Rays have the best rotation in baseball outside of Philadelphia and San Francisco.

David Price
James Shields (had a ridiculously awful bad-luck fueled season in 2010)
Wade Davis
Jeremy Hellickson
Jeff Niemann

That right there is easily the best rotation in the AL East. They lost Crawford, which will hurt a lot, but they have Desmond Jennings ready to step in and he's supposed to be the second coming. At first they lost Carlos Pena and his 35 HRs and .198 batting average. They're a good young team on the rise and if Damon and Manny are motivated, the sky is the limit.

If you view Hellickson as so promising, how can you not view Nova as similar? As for their offense, I don't expect much. Longoria is still a boss, but besides that who do they have? An aging Damon and an even older Ramirez? They'll be lucky to take 3rd. In a few years they'll be back on top, but this year I don't see anything other than missing the playoffs for them.

Well, that's why they play the games.

If you could convince her, I'd do a drive from Boston -> New York -> Philadelphia -> Baltimore -> Chicago checking out the stadiums en route
Well the whole reason we are going over there is for me to go see some baseball. I think she'd enjoy it, games are cheep, and I'm still amazed by how many games are played a year. I mean sports over here are one a week per team!
Well, then yeah, do it this way.

Start in Boston and catch the Red Sox at Camden Yards.
Swing down to New York and catch a game at Yankees Stadium at the very least, and Citi Field (Mets) if you have the time and inclination.
After that you can head down to Philadelphia and Citizens Bank Park for a Phillies game.
Follow it up with Camden Yards in Baltimore (which happens to be my favorite stadium in baseball).
From here I'd head west. Stop in Pittsburgh and catch a Pirates game at PNC Park.
Then either head northwest to Cleveland or southwest to Cincinatti and catch a game in either city (Indians and Reds respectively).
Finish up your trip in Chicago at Wrigley Field, home of the Cubs.

None of these cities is more than a handful of hours apart by car so the travel part would be pretty easy. The only tricky part would be lining up the trip so they're all home when you want them to be

Anyway, that would be my dream of a week-long baseball vacation.
That sounds awseme pity I can't +1

If the Sox can stay relatively healthy the offense will be great. It will be much improved. Yes you lose V-Mart along with Beltre. In return (if healthy) you'll have a full year of Elsbury, Youk,  Pedroia plus add another 70 steal early line-up guy in Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez who hit a ton at Petco. Add in your Poppy, Drew and co.
Pitching is loaded. We have too many pitchers. I worry about Beckett though. Personally I believe he won't return to a #1 type pitcher. He's done. Wake'n'Bake to the rescue.

I say Sox win 103-107 games if they can stay healthy.
