My family has a good mind for baseball I don't know why. Grandfather was good at it, dad was good at it, I represented many levels at it, and I just got an email from my uncle just this morning saying my young cousin has a chance to play on one of the sides for Australia for a special junior series in Japan and the US, same one I played in when I was younger.Jay wrote:

2nd mainly, and pitching rotation. When I got a little older and our competition started falling apart they started putting my in the outfield as I was the only one that could hit all the bases . Thinking about driving to the next town over to play again. Hard though when I work 7 days a week and its a 1.5 hour drive fro training and playing Miss it.

Has slowpitch softball made its way over there? It's a lot more popular among adults over here than baseball is (to play anyway).Adams_BJ wrote:

I'm far too competitive to play social sports anyway. I have to be playing to win otherwise I get bored and stop showing up.
That organization after the whole Wilpon scandal became a bigger joke management wise than the Islanders. That's a feat. Getting a loan from the MLB and then asking for another one? lolwutJay wrote:

Ahh well we have tournaments and stuff over here. It gets pretty competitive at the top levels.Adams_BJ wrote:

So I should do what? Stop being a fan? Switch my allegiance to the Yankees? I go to baseball games because it's fun and a source of entertainment. I'm not one of those die-hard fans that lives, breathes and dies based on his teams performance. Citi Field is fifteen minutes from my apartment and going to a game there is a good time.Poseidon wrote:

lol calm down, I'm not saying you should switch teams or anything, I'm just laughing at how poor that organization is run..Jay wrote:

as a life long Isles fan, I deserve it
The girlfriend and I are thinking of going to the US next year for a week or two. Will have to see a few games on my travels.
They're not nearly as bad off as the Islanders. They changed their front office over the winter and, in my opinion, have one of the top crews in baseball running the show now. Give them a few years and they'll produce a winner.Poseidon wrote:

Mike Milbury destroyed the Islanders. Charles Wang is a retard, and Garth Snow isn't much better than Milbury was. That team is seriously fucked from the ground up.

If you could convince her, I'd do a drive from Boston -> New York -> Philadelphia -> Baltimore -> Chicago checking out the stadiums en routeAdams_BJ wrote:

Well the whole reason we are going over there is for me to go see some baseball. I think she'd enjoy it, games are cheep, and I'm still amazed by how many games are played a year. I mean sports over here are one a week per team!Jay wrote:

Mets just make poor decisions on signing players. They've overpaid for at least 5 guys on their squad right now. They'll be fine though.
I have season tix to the Angels, although I'll probably only make about 10 games this year. And I dropped 2 of my 4 seats as they were getting a bit too expensive. Days of paying out $15k plus for Angels tickets are done.

That he did, and that Wang is (heard a rumor Torrey wanted to come on as a GM after Smith's firing as long as Wang stayed out of hockey dealings... Wang said no, Torrey said peace), but Snow's done a damn good job with what he's been given budget wise. Especially with that pickup of Grabner. If they're not a playoff team next season, I will be thoroughly shocked. This season, with the injuries... it's at least somewhat understandable.Jay wrote:

Anyways, baseball.. I can see the Nationals sneaking into the Wild Card spot if their rotation can stabilize. I've seen crazier things happen.
What's the stadium like? In comparison to Dodger Stadium? I've never been to Cali but would love to take a tour up the coast and catch games in SD, LA, the Bay Area, and Seattle. Would be a good time.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:

Nah, there's no way the Nats finish with a better record than they did last year. No Strasburg and Dunn is a much better player than Werth.Poseidon wrote:

Start in Boston and catch the Red Sox at Fenway Park.
Swing down to New York and catch a game at Yankees Stadium at the very least, and Citi Field (Mets) if you have the time and inclination.
After that you can head down to Philadelphia and Citizens Bank Park for a Phillies game.
Follow it up with Camden Yards in Baltimore (which happens to be my favorite stadium in baseball).
From here I'd head west. Stop in Pittsburgh and catch a Pirates game at PNC Park.
Then either head northwest to Cleveland or southwest to Cincinatti and catch a game in either city (Indians and Reds respectively).
Finish up your trip in Chicago at Wrigley Field, home of the Cubs.
None of these cities is more than a handful of hours apart by car so the travel part would be pretty easy. The only tricky part would be lining up the trip so they're all home when you want them to be
Anyway, that would be my dream of a week-long baseball vacation.
Edit - can't believe I had Camden Yards in Boston, lololol

We'll see. I wouldn't be overly shocked if Wang regained form and Lannan (Long Island native, 'sup) won 15-16 this year.
As for the Yankees... while I was originally horrified by the rotation after the failure to sign Lee (thanks asshole fans for pouring beer on his wife), I'm a bit more content after a really solid spring training. Burnett, Nova and Colon all have under 3 ERAs. I expect the rotation to be something like this:
CC
Burnett
Hughes
Nova
Colon
Which isn't bad at all if Burnett and Colon regain form. Both of them seem on their way to doing so.

That's a pretty godawful rotation man. 2/5 are quality.

Angels stadium is alright...it's got a gaudy fake-rock formation waterfall in centerfield, one of the lasting legacies of disney ownership. Dodger Stadium is a shithole, but it's part of a pretty cool concourse area that's pretty cool to check out. San Diego's stadium is awesome, SF's stadium is amazing, Seattle's is pretty outstanding as well.Jay wrote:

When Burnett's on his game he's a really solid #2. He had a lot of family problems last year which is what led a lot of NYY fans to believe was the reason for his pisspoor performance. Hughes is only going to get better, Nova has shown ridiculous promise, and Colon is just the 5th spot.Jay wrote:

Worst case scenario, they trade for a pitcher in July. They were just ranked the 5th best team in terms of organizational depth and prospects, so I don't think it'd blow up the farm if they traded ManBan or Montero. Just not both, ffs Cashman.
Dunn is not a better player than Werth imo. Dunn is somewhat one-dimensional. He hits home runs or strikes out.Jay wrote:
