I'm not hoping for Israel to do such a thing, but it'd be nice if they did, that the US would condemn Israel, and threaten to withdraw all support of it's aggression towards Iran. And then it'd be even cooler if Iran flattened Israel. Wipe all the monuments, shrines, domes, temples, mosques, EVERYTHING off that land so it's no longer a point of contention.

But I fear, even with a Dem president and this Dem congress, they'd still feel it's necessary to protect Israel and that pisses me off beyond measure.

I know if McCain were president and that happened, he'd not only support Israel vicariously, but they'd probably have some ICBMs come in and flatten Tehran.

I like Iranians. I think they may be some of greatest people on earth. I just wish they were free of their ideology and idiot leaders. I'd hate for iranians to have a real reason to hate us. Hell, I hate having any general population hating us.

I'm sure you can see that Israel was very much the same in their pursuit of grabbing Palestinian lands and developing their own nukes. Of course, we'd be the last to stop them from doing anything.

I also find it interesting that people don't think we can afford socialized healthcare, but we can afford nation building Iran (a nation with about 60 million people).

How would they pull off an attack on Iran? It's abit further away than Iraq (Osiraq) and they probably won't be allowed to fly through Iraq otherwise the Shias would go abso-fucking-loutly apeshit that Israeli jets were allowed through the airpsace. They'll have to cut through one of the countries, maybe Saudi Arabia would allow it. I don't know. No doubt that if they attack Iran, it will mean war. The US will definitely get involved, maybe Israel will intentionally start a war knowing they'll get the US involved and therefore an easy (or easier) win.

What about all those Iranian-backed groups near Israel? You think they'd let this happen? This could start off a pretty big conflict...

The rate at things are going, it seems that Israel, the US and Iran want a war. So, let them, I just hope we don't get dragged in because we're already busy fighting the people that were actually the original and proper target.

Israel makes an explicit threat to Iran which contributes to the price of oil going ever higher, providing a net benefit to oil producing countries...like Iran.

EDIT: An attack against Iran by Israel is a non-starter anyway. Unlike Osirak the Iranian program is spread out geographically in mountainous terrain, often underground and twice as far away from Israel. It's not like it's a massive facility on top of open desert.

Anything Olmert says should be taken with a grain of salt at present. He's a leader with his poll numbers in the toilet and is facing corruption charges. It's not uncommon for people in that situation to sabre-rattle in an attempt to drive up their ratings. Better to shift attention to some easily identifiable "other" than deal with an inability to orchestrate things properly at home. Witness Israel's disastrous incursion into Lebanon 2 years ago.
