Arcade machine would look fine in a media library or rec room setting. The demographic of people who can afford a place big enough for a dedicated room for that stuff vs. who want to actually have one is probably dwindling. I know people for whom a simple ping pong table was a lavish dream never actually fulfilled. Like no floorspace to even keep one folded up and leaning against the wall.

If I had to pick a pair of classic cabinets to gaudify a rec room, it would probably be between Cruisin' USA or that one Jurassic Park enclosure, and Simpsons or Ninja Turtles. Third choice Terminator with the gun. The only pinball I remember by name is Epic Pinball, the video game.

Hmm

Should every family have a recreational room? What about reducing our carbon footprint?

A rec room doesn't necessarily have to be much different than the usual media-ized living room, plus there's stuff you can put in one that doesn't need much much more than ambient lighting. The real obstacle here is home space. In smaller houses, you're going to have rooms that pull multi-duty as several traditional rooms. But while a TV can be pretty low profile in a living room that doubles as a sitting room and dining room (couch and TV trays), it's kind of hard for a pool table or pinball machine to not stand out. Some of that stuff goes for free on craigslist from people who are downsizing.

"Reduce your carbon footprint" is a really bitter pill for people forced to do so due to economic circumstance while the wealthy live with a footprint bigger than a whole suburban neighborhood. I have to make compromises on a pre-built PC because of emissions, while some guy uncontestedly lives in a house with 60 heated rooms or whatever. Punch-down eco legislation probably isn't going to intimidate industries or the rich.

How many rooms do you need? I would like a home office room. Someplace like this where I can sit and write my memoirs

Also I would like a prayer room just like this. Someplace I can make things right with God.

If we're still talking burbs, enough to where one room doesn't have to serve too many purposes. Less clutter that way.

At least as many bathrooms as there are bedrooms, plus a half bath for visitors. Kitchen and dining room separate. Mud room because Washington (would also definitely have a no shoes rule, screw street dirt). Sitting room to partition off the rest of the house. Spare room for a separate library, home office. Covered patio would be lovely. Studio workshop and garage can be on an outlying building. Laundry room far enough away from bedroom/office that I don't have to hear it. Can forgo usable attic and basement if there's enough room otherwise for my stuff to be unpacked. Rec room (lol) could occupy what would normally be an attached garage. Gym stuff and video games can stay out there.

Could all be done on a modest rambler. Doesn't have to be nuts like your photos.

If we're talking urban, I just don't want to have to share a communal bathroom.

Went to my sister's place. She had my old Gameboy color. I am going to buy some fake carts from eBay.

The Gundam gaming router is pretty funny. Exact same thing as the other router of its version but with a $40 Gundam paint scheme.

FWP, for like the past two weeks, end-of-trial nags for an antimalware program I use. Gotta uninstall/reinstall every year. Trial features only, not as if I can take advantage of the whole suite.

Maybe in another 10 years, I might actually buy a year of it. I eventually caved on WinRAR.

I bought a whole "internet security" subscription from Avast. $30 a year or something.

one of my favourite mark-up editors/word processor apps recently stopped being free. annoying. i mean, i can justify the cost but … man. i just took notes in their app for 2 years, got really used to their UI and file structure, and now i have to pay for the thing that was free before.

nice, very based marketing.

My next phone will probably be an iPhone. I really like Android but Airpods and Apple Watches look so appealing. I plan to run out this phone until the battery fails though.

i’m getting the mini soon. will have to get it shipped from home to here as all phones bought in korea have a stupid mandatory camera shutter noise. also apple is exorbitantly expensive here.

really glad that they’re offering a single-hand, classic mobile phone. sick of pocketing a giant slab of glass in all my trousers or jackets. plus the mini is the cheapest whilst packing the same camera/internals (minus a few extras that i don’t care much for; i can live without a telephoto lens and a 100hz screen).

I can see the appeal of the mini though I spend a lot of time on my phone watching videos.

most people say they barely notice it once they adjust. even though it's 'small', it's still a pretty big edge-to-edge screen. that said, if you have a laptop or an ipad, it definitely takes the pressure off using a phone for videos.

i've never really watched videos or played games on my phone so it's no brainer. settled on the decision over the last 2-3 weeks after looking at a bunch of the latest-gen models in store.

i don't know why but their minis for the last 2 generations have just come in way nicer colourways, too. i don't like the silver/chrome/gold look of their 'pro' top-tier phones. they're kind of blingy and heavy with all the 'premium' stainless materials. give me a fun and sleek phone anyday. the iphone minis remind me of early ipods.

hmmm. and a comparison:

got the iphone mini last week. can’t believe phones stopped being this size. it’s perfect. utterly lightweight and everything can be done with one hand.
