Aye it's one of the Korean monitors, as far as pixel issues go I think I got a cracker. I've not noticed a single dead pixel yet. To be fair, there's so many it's unlikely I'll even notice if there is one.Winston_Churchill wrote:
thats one of the korean Dell/apple knockoffs right? any pixel issues? apparently theyre very hit and miss - can be absolutely perfect quality or have a few dead pixels and youre screwed.
i have the Dell with the same panel
The panel is ever so slightly different from your Dell's panel, this is the one used in the Cinema Display and iMacs.
this monitor is rated oh so hi for ips 27" however the price is retardo
did you expect them to plug in the monitor to a computer and turn it on so they could take a product photo?
they're considered pretty equal in quality, theyre ones that didnt pass quality standards at apple or dell. theres a risk of dead pixels and theres usually not that great of a return policy so its a gamble. but if you get a good one its certainly worth it.
if you want one of the ultrasharps - check the site often especially around xmas since they go on sale for hundreds of dollars cheaper quite frequently. and dell coupons

Pretty much this. If you're willing to take a gamble on it, then go for it. I got lucky and I'm pretty sure I don't have any dead pixels. But I know that you love your photography and photoshop so is it worth the risk to you to drop $350 on a monitor that might have a few slight issues, or would you go and pay the $600 to make sure your monitor is fine?Winston_Churchill wrote:

IPS displays are amazing, I can see why they're so highly commended for image editing and such.
for a fatty you're a serious intellectual lightweight.
Went with the T2i over the T3 for the video options and extra resolution.
what's the model name for the T2 outside the USA?
Niiice, what drives are in it?
Just a 500GB its for work. Went with a H77 itx, core i3, 8gb build.
Bought and purchased today. 16GB for €399. Costs a bit more than it does in Germany, but I would have paid almost that with shipping and handling and then I would have been forced to wait until end of February or March. Fuck that, local store got them in and were selling them at a steep discount so I grabbed one of the few they had.
Did a bad thing -

Seems like a good decision to me so long as you can afford it. XD
Yeah. I don't need a wedding. I have a GTX670.

Aha ha ha, nice.
How much for the both of them?

Ummm, £380-ish? I think. The Samsung is replacing my Corsair Force 3 which I bought just a year ago (that's going in Jacqui's PC.)FFLink wrote:

Not sure why you would replace it with a drive that actually has worse read/write speeds. But that's just me, probably not noticeable in real world scenarios.

Assuming you're talking about the regular 840 (which is the image you posted).Camm wrote:

Corsair Force 3:
550 MB/s sequential read — 510 MB/s sequential write - Max Random Write 85k IOPS
Samsung 840:
530MB/s sequential read - 130MB/s sequential write - Max Random Write 85k IOPS
That said, the Samsung still generally benchmarks a reasonable amount better, it's just that if I was going from an already decent SSD i'd grab the pro version of the Samsung or the Intel 520.
The Samsung will still be better than the corsair in actual performance.
The Samsung is also better from a pure usability standpoint. Samsung SSD firmware can be update from within Windows - no other SSD manufacturer can lay claim to that.
Plus, I find it better to buy an SSD where the controller and disk itself are all made by the same company. Should there be problems with the controller, like all the Sandforce drives were plagued with for so long, having everything from one company means solutions are sent out to users faster.

I'm certainly not saying the Samsung is bad, I personally just would've gone for the Pro version if I was upgrading from an already decent SSD. Particularly because of the faster and generally more reliable MLC NAND of the Pro with it's overall performance being much higher (especially in regards to write). This together with the longer warranty on the Pro and I would've paid the extra money.
But this is all just my opinion, the 840 is a perfectly good mid-level SSD.

It's the 840 Pro, I guess it's just the image name that made you think otherwise.

Well that's ok then. You didn't post what it actually was and the image is of an 840 120GB, so you can see where I got that from.
