i bought two, one for work, one for home. i like patriot's thumbdrives, they are very universal - not found a machine that didn't instantly recognize them . . .nickb64 wrote:

Patriot XPorter XT 16GB for school info and photos.
Also got a Steelseries QCK heavy and QCK mini to replace old, falling apart mousepads
Nevermind...I just checked the website.FEOS wrote:

yeah, i can tell it's the 21" by the white detail... the 27" is bigger and sleek-black. it's a shame apple don't sell the 21" as a separate unitFEOS wrote:
It's the iMac. 21.5" screen. Bought it for the spousal unit, as her PC is approaching end of life. She's becoming one if the Borg, what with the iPhone, iPad...and now this. I suppose if I could game on it, I would transition, but since I can't...
Next purchase is some additional RAM.
They essentially look the same.

I almost bought a higher capacity version of the one that I have right now, some Kingston model, but the U3 bullshit on it pissed me off too much when using it at school, because it took forever to become useable on the machines loading the U3 launchpad.burnzz wrote:

there is an applet for getting rid of u3. i can't remember (sandisk?) but on the front page of the website, it's available for download. it formats a thumbdrive fat32, takes away the u3.
yeah, it sucks . . .

yeah, on the .co.uk website the standalone 27" just has a slim black decor... no white part at the bottom. very strange.FEOS wrote:

Uzi I think you were looking at just the 27inch LCD monitor, as opposed to an iMac. All iMacs have that bottom silver border as far as I know
yeah... that's what i mean. i just wanted the screen for my macbook, as a desktop expansion.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:

the imac comes with the 21" or the 27" screen. i was hoping they'd sell the 21" size one separately too... but only the 27".

I believe that silver area is where the RAM sits...pretty much the only thing you can change yourself.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:

still there's no excuse for charging nearly a grand for a 27" monitor

its an IPS monitor, totally different technology and much better quality.
pretty small market (mostly graphic designers and the like) for IPS monitors of that size, making the price ridiculously high. plus the apple tax

You can get 27" IPS screens for a lot less than £1k, this one for example, no excuse for an extra £400 for what is essentially, an Apple logo.Winston_Churchill wrote:

That's not a lot less than £1000 when you're already shelling out £700 for a monitor. It's still a lot of money for a monitor. Well worth it if you have the cash though.TheEternalPessimist wrote:

I'd say 30% more is a bit of a chunk to anyone and I don't think anyone regardless of how minted they are is going to say no to £300 for nothing.
Given that the Dell is probably the better monitor too, I've not dug about in the specs much but, it seems to equal or beat it in everything. I can't see a reason for buying the Apple one.

I got that monitor for $800 CAD, including S&H and taxes, which is a helluva lot less than £1000 base price. It goes on sale at 30-40% off every few months on the dell site.
How about the 30" for $1125?TheEternalPessimist wrote:

kinda silly to pay 3-400 more for 3 inches bigger yet only 160 vertical pixels taller. way lower pixel density than the 27"
but in proving the point that the apple one is needlessly overpriced... yep
