The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
So, what tech did you guys buy?...................
As for me, I'm now a mindless drone, a sheep, and have joined the cult.
Bought 2 iTouch 3G 32GB. I'll get them this Friday. Couldn't resist the apps and wifi.

Why two though?
One for my 11 year old son for getting straight A's on his last report card (he's been asking for awhile, since most of his friends already have it). One for my wife, for Valentine's Day. My wife is a techno noob, so it'll basically be me who will figure it out. And I'll probably get one for myself soon enough.CammRobb wrote:

Will your son/wife seriously use 32 GB? I have hard-drives smaller than that!Ilocano wrote:

Pulled the trigger on this. I tried to add a tube of thermal paste, and shipping went from $14 to $22. Thanks, Newegg.mikkel wrote:
Looking at buying this as soon as I can transfer funds from my Danish account.

3000 dollars! WTF?
Seriously. There are Dell branded versions in the $1K range.CammRobb wrote:

Cisco don't license their major product lines to anyone, let alone a competitor like Dell.Ilocano wrote:

Cisco Catalyst switches on Dell blade servers for example. But anyway, wrong in my part. I was thinking about another Dell switch/router/firewall unit that I setup.mikkel wrote:

Those units are Cisco branded units, not Dell branded units. I think the 3030 for Dell blade chassis is actually based on the same hardware as the switch in my post. I don't recall Cisco ever letting anyone put a different name on any of their significant product lines. In any case, I work on large Cisco networks, and I'm using these units for studying. They aren't cheap, but it's a worthwhile investment.Ilocano wrote:

Edgecore Networks sells their switches for like 30% less than Cisco switches. Not sure which particualr models would be the equivalent of those though. But for the most part Cisco has the highest markup of any network hardware manufacturer. Gotta pay that advertising budget somehow!
is there a particular reason you wanted the 2801?
I got it for working at home. I just plug it into my network and enter my extension and password and it VPNs me into the Apple phone network, so it's like having my office phone at home.SonderKommando wrote:

I hope you get paid for working at home...fuck that as far as I'm concerned. I put in waaaay too much time at the office as it is. They tried to give me access from home and I said, "No thanks."
You don't get paid from working some hours at home?KEN-JENNINGS wrote:

I don't (and won't) work from home. I'm at around $60k which in my mind is not nearly enough to have to worry about work after I leave the office. Access to the exchange server and a company phone for emails is enough.Ilocano wrote:

No, I meant working from home during normal work hours. I know a DBA who used to troubleshoot from a beach in Hawaii.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:
