So, seriously, what's the difference between Analogue and Digital?

I've tried both on my monitor and can't tell the difference between a very very very cheap analogue and a pretty expensive digital cable.

Why are you asking if you don't notice any difference? If a phat girl satisfies all your needs then why keep on looking for a more expensive hot chick?

Nah,  you've just got bad eyes.

or

- Monitor sucks to begin with
- not running at native (LCD?)
- DVI/HDMI on both ends?

And are we talking about monitors or speakers?

Prolly but that's a whole different story.

To me with digital the image seems more focused while with analog its a bit "muddy".

Monitor.. Also I just noticed this isn't in Open thread. Oops.

The monitor is good - expensive in its day, still as bright as then, running native 1280x1024 and DVI from my graphics card to the screen. I'll go get the cable and have another look.

Well, then you probably have a nice monitor that handles analog just about as well as digital.  On my LCD's, analog and digital are night and day.  But then again, most of mines are cheap "performance" monitors.

Yeah, practically no difference here.

Could it be due to the fact I use a digital > analogue dongle with my cable?

no. I'm thinking if its an old monitor its digital inputs are an early design and prolly not as good as the newer ones

You don't need to be an audiophile to notice difference between a good standalone DAC and a good soundcard. Only requirement is that you're not deaf in both ears

Lol, ya. I can't really tell the different between my Macbook Pro's audio out and DAC when they are connected to my Logitech Z-4 speakers.. cause the speakers are rather crap But with stuff like the AV40's.. there will be a definate improvement.

Watch and weep. Jump to 40:30 if you don't feel like watching the whole thing.
That's nice and all, but there is an audible difference between my macbook pro audio out and my DAC, when using headphones.. for one the DAC doesn't have any line noise..
