Everytime I quit BF2 it'd take my computer 5 minutes to fully become operational again. I check the memory usage and it's using only 400mb, yet doing anything that requires memory will slow it down.

1. The desktop takes about 2 minutes to restore.
2. The right-click ability becomes usable after a further 2 minutes
3. The volume stops choking after about another minute
PLUS: no matter how long I wait, starting any other program which requires RAM (firefox, word etc.) will cause my computer to grind to a standstill as it loads the information onto RAM. Seriously, I'd think after so many years of building computers, they'd have gotten faster than the original 386s.

EDIT: Oh yeah, forgot to make this thread point-less-proof. Um...any suggestions, I guess?

system specs?

i'd suggest you use firefox, it handles memory MUCH better.

What about processor activity? Have you checked if there are apps after quitting BF2 that are eating up your CPU resources?

I haven't come across a game which deals with RAM as well as BF2. Sure it hogs it, but alt+tab is flawless even on poor systems and when you close it, there's no aftermath of instability.

All I can suggest is to make sure both BF2.exe and the "~e5.0001" processes are terminated.

It's a Dell laptop, Centrino Duo 2Ghz, 1G ram, X1400 mobility graphics card.

To AusReap: I do use firefox, but even that is slow
To DonFck: Processor activity is down to 1%
To Fat_Swinub: Exactly the opposite, GTA quits better than BF2.

More RAM.... I was having the same issue/problem before I built my new rig and stuffed 3GB of RAM in it. Now I can alt/tab out of BF2 (mid round) and surf the web or what ever with no performance hit at all.

I had the same spec laptop as you but with a 1.83Ghz processor.  I upgraded to 2Gig of RAM, best thing I ever did.  Got it from the Dell website for £23.

that bastard sticks around once in a while, and tries to put other apps on low priority, that might be doing it.

1. After closing the game with "quit" i get a major hardware lag and the stupid windows voice can be heard twice.
2. Game video options change sometimes by itself. Like i have shadows disabled and sometimes i got in the game. Need to set it again.
3. Random crashes to desktop
4. Unmodified content bug. You dont have anything modified and it dont let you join server. Rejoin and it may work.
5. Buy Booster pack. You ahve it and it sais you dont own it.
6. Random game crash main menu
7. Random server crash
8. All well known game bugs, glitches, hitreg etc.
9. Sometimes you cant even login with your account

Yeah playing this game makes my blood pressure over 150 for sure but w/e

I'm just afraid adding RAM would be a waste if the motherboard can't keep up. What motherboards to Dells use anyway? Home brand?

Yeah I was wondering whether or not I should upgrade RAM, but it'll be far easier/wiser to just buy a newer laptop...

Mine is about 2 years old and exactly the same model.  2Gb of ram will speed your laptop up nicely as it did to mine.  You should be able to get it pretty cheep from the Dell website.

It's $146.30 for 1G, and I'll need to buy two right?

let me guess, vista and 1GB ram?

you can get another 1GB ram, or stop using vista

You'll need to buy two unless your current 1GB of ram is just one stick and not two.  I don't know if that is a good price for it or not for it as I'm not up on Australian prices.  If it's similar to American Dollars it seems a bit excessive and not worth it.

Nope, XP Professional.

And to Anubis: that's about $130USD, which is kind of a rip if you ask me.

You have to pay 130 bucks for 1 gig of fucking RAM?

EDIT: I dunno if you can use Newegg in Australia, but http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6820134007
1gig for ~$20. I dont know if its the exact type of ram you will need for your specific lappy, but with a little research you should be able to find out

Don't buy it for that price then.  Total rip off.  I don't understand how it's cheap on Dell in the UK but not in Australia.
Have a look at the type of ram you have and try and find it cheaper somewhere else.
