So, with summer coming up, I'll be working most days during the week. But I'll have weekends, and other days I won't be working. So I decided I'm going to try to beat the "famous" Dragonforce song on Guitar Hero. The first part of the song uses a style called "tapping" or something similar. I've got a friend who plays this non-stop, and he says the first part of the song is Tapping, using both hands to hit the buttons because all the notes are hammer ons. I need some tips on how to do this though, obviously I can't just jump right into it.
I'm thinking I'll use my Index finger, and the middle for green and red on my left hand. Then I'll use my index finger for yellow, middle for blue, and ring for orange all on my left hand. Also, instead of strumming the first note with my hand, I thought I'd be easier to use my forearm or my elbow to hit the strum bar.
Tell me what you do, or if my idea is terrible. Just trying to get some feedback, I'm interested in learning how to do this.

I assume you mean on hard?  Or your definition of "beat" varies from mine.

I beat it with 3 stars (twice mind you) on Medium   Yeah, im not the greatest at it, but nearly 5 stared everything on medium, god damn Knights of Cydonia, galloping triplets screw me over everytime.

That said, I would classify DragonForces as the hardest song on difficulty, however difficulty+length makes it stand above the rest.  Good luck regardless, I dont even know how hammerons work, I know they're there, im jsut to lazy to figure it out

How is it cheating? "Tapping" is an actual technique in real guitar... why can't you emulate it with a plastic controller?

Isn't that how Jeff Healy plays?

Fine, we'll do that, if you stop playing CoD4 and go enlist.

wat.

Really, maybe I'm too old for you youngsters and your off-beat humour, but I didn't get that. CoD4? Played SP twice, never played MP, I've already uninstalled. Enlist? Enlist where? The military? I did my service as a Military Police 8 years ago, thanks for asking.

Electric guitars kick ass. Chicks dig them, they make a cool sound, even cooler if you know what you're doing.

/off-topic.

On topic: I'd never learn that Dragonforce-song. Not on a plastic controller, nor on a real guitar.

It was a joke. Regardless of whether you've played CoD4 or have served, I was speaking of how people say to go "buy an electric guitar" which is usually $400-$500 for a decent one and takes years to master instead of getting the $100 bundle of Guitar Hero which takes a month maybe to master and is generally all out fun from the get-go.

My bad. As a guitarplayer it's an involuntary reflex to write "get a real guitar" every time you hear about GH. I can't help it. It's a condition, like tourettes.

I suck at GH, btw.

Oh, and to those you reply with "GH sux, plai realz guitr" I do infact play the real guitar. But I also enjoy playing Guitar Hero, solely because its a great way to kill time with friends.

Honestly, I don't see how people can compare it to a real guitar. The only similarities are the shape and sounds of the two. They don't operate the same way, they aren't made of the same materials, and they both require different skill sets.
Please gtfo haters, this is a thread to discuss the intro of TTFAT not to discuss how much you loathe Guitar Hero and how gay it is, or how much better the real guitar is because to be honest you can take your opinion, and go cry to someone else with it.

Back on topic, I'm finding this to be incredibly hard. I'm almost about to give up, because learning this song seems like a complete waste of time when GH IV is coming out before too long. Unless someone has some secret way of beating it.

I only really trust ScoreHero.com and according to them "iamchris4life" has the closest with -10.

Back on topic: I also tried to learn the tapping for the start of TTFaF (Got sidetracked massively by custom songs when i got PC version). Very easy for all speeds except full speed, which failed hard.

I use left index/middle and right index/middle/ring.
I don't strum with my elbow because i think it is incredibly retarded but instead opt to strum normally and play the first roll up with just my left hand. This requires sliding your hand up whilst playing and so it helps to memorize the first few rolls such that you can check your hands are in the right place.

If your having trouble breaching the gap between Slow and Full Speed, i have heard that increasing the hyperspeed by 2 from what you would normally play (ie if normally 0 try 2 / if normally 2 try 4) and playing on slow makes it much easier get the timing right.

Otherwise you just have to practive heaps and eventually you will get it. Then you can fail the rest of the song because it's still impossible after the start.

Hope that helps.
