Best med-large distribution domestic beer: Shiner Bock.

Best foreign beer: Anything German or a good Belgian Ale (Duvals comes to mind).

I prefer Duvel and Leffe. If you want to go all out Westvleteren is your kind of beer. If I'm in the mood for just lager I'll take Stella Artois or Jupiler. Kasteelbier which is brewed in my town (owner of the brewery lives across my house) is pretty good as well.

If I wasn't saving every spare penny right now, I would absolutely visit Belgium, probably before any other EU country (but you know I'd find my way from there into Holland).

lol, when ever I am at the beer store I look at Duvel, then pass it by for some reason...though I keep meaning to try it (surprised I haven't?)
