I dunno, I'm sort of torn on 1 and 2. UK has gone a bit downhill in recent years, almost laughable in respect to what it used to be. Need to go take over some African countries and get the Empire back .

I don't see why we need an Empire in order to feel proud of our country.  Those Dominions were never truly British anyway, the real British people were those who were from the mother country, they were the heart and soul.  The vast parts of the Empire were just foreigners who were subjugated against their will, I highly doubt they felt much British sentiment.

Anyway my point is that Britain today still has the same core ideals and cultures as Britain had back then.  After WWII, when we and the rest of Europe were lying in ruin, and America and the USSR started clashing heads, the British people started to rebuild, and the fact that we rebuilt Britain as one of the wealthiest and most foremost countries in the world and maintained it with such a relatively small population is a testament to the hard working nation that we are.

So yes, I am fiercely proud of my nationality, English in particular (I'm one of those who support an independent Britain).

Malaysia could use a fair bit of work, most of which lie within the governmental systems, but when I look at the slums in the Middle East, as well as those Tesla Coils of Doom that India and some other ASEAN nations have for electrical wiring, I feel Malaysia really isn't that bad. It's got a buttload of potential just waiting to be unleashed, so I'm not giving up on it just yet.

tl;dr I chose #2.

My country.................its fucked up..............but we are fixing it bit by bit. Shit load of rich Americans blue chips over here this week for an investment conference. Trying to get our hands on the Irish American mullah.

I have no pride in my nation. Which is the cause of most of the problems here. We have no national identity as far as I can see it.
The UK doesn't want us. We are a burden on their economy. Not as bad as we used to be, but we still aren't out of the negative, financially.
The Republic of Ireland doesn't want us. We would be a burden on their fragile economic boom. They seen pound signs and abandoned us.
We have the Unionists calling themselves British and won't use the word "Ireland" or "Irish" in any description of their nationhood......even though they are on the island of Ireland.
The republicans can't call ourselves Irish, because we are are actually Northern Irish. We are not united under any common goal or good.

Personally my love affair with the Republic has ended. My family have fought and died for the republic and for the north and we have been abandoned by them. Fuck them and fuck the British too. Northern Ireland should be its own state, with no ties to any of them IMO. Abolish cooperation tax and stick it to both of them I say.

Hmmm, perhaps so.  Maybe the inevitable change of government will help.  I have never been old enough to really be aware of a conservative government in power.  Even though I refuse to vote for them (or any current party for that matter) it will be interesting to see what a conservative government will bring us.

When looking at all our pros and cons, I'd say I feel generally good about America, but not quite patriotic.

We're certainly better than a lot of the world though.

Colonialism was bad. Almost every example of British colonialism has gone horribly wrong (from the natives point of view). The only colony I believe Britain actually did anything good for was India (which ties in with my views on tribalism and how it is to blame for virtually everything (bit of an exaggeration) that's wrong with the world today).

Australia generally rocks. Just about everything the rest of the world thinks about us(that's bad) is a flat-out lie. Everyone is nice, no direct involvement in terrorist attacks or big wars, no neighbours, no freaky weather killing people, no worries.

Everyone in Australia would vigourously agree. Patriotism is universal here. Even the emos love Australia(I checked).

there are hudreds of ways you could choose to define which country is 'best'. No one country comes top of everything, not even close. The question is therefore very subjective.

I go for option 2. The UK is good at many things but definately not 'the best' at everything.

I've never been to Australia, but the only "bad" things I can think of concerning Australia are...

1) the history of abuse toward Aborigines and continued marginalization of them
2) the various extremely poisonous pests that one can encounter there
3) the fact that the edge of the ozone hole periodically passes over Southern Australia (which has the potential to cause many cases of melanoma in the near future)
4) it's very expensive to live there from what I've heard

Other than that, Australia seems pretty cool.  I'd probably move there if I could afford it.

The US is a great country, but we have flaws.  There are a lot of good countries out there, but I haven't really found one I could call "better."

Precisely my thoughts.  I picked the bottom one (hate it) because it was closest to how I feel...hate the leaders and direction but love the good people in it..and the land itself is second to NONE!

Null vote.

While I appreciate living in a country that has a much easier life than alot of others.  I had little to do with the prosperity of the nation, so I have no pride in my country, I respect the soldiers and people who do make this country a good country... It's just too bad it's only a country, and the same can't be said for the whole planet.

Basically I am not a big fan of the whole patriotic, proud of our little corner of the world thing.

The people voted for the Government, the Government is made up of the people and supposably acts on behalf of the people. If you were seriously proud of the 'people' you would be proud of their decision too. I'm sorry but I think you have taken a small segment of society which you persieve as worthy and stamp them as your national identity which is far from the real truth.
